Time for an update... I had 3 weeks off over Christmas but didn’t really get far with the Ute...
Fiddled with the wiring and made it worse (decided to strip out the unused plugs out of the Silvia loom but must have deleted a wire somewhere by mistake as now a couple of relays click incessantly when I turn the key to “ON”)
Put on the doors and bonnet
Made up an air pipe for the front and attached the POD filter
Pulled off all the old water hoses and replaced ALL of them – should have done that at the start or at least before installing the motor
Installed the driveshaft (took both Ute and silvia Auto driveshafts to GJ drivelines here in Melbourne and they made up one for me and balanced it for $100)
Assembled my jack and bought a single phase motor for it (now just need a sparky to wire it up)

one question... is it legal (in Victoria) to have the tyres sticking out this much on the side?

Nope- you need camber ops to pull thm back in at top and or flared guards. Tyres can't protrude from body.

Can't legally sneeze or say hello to a stranger in vic currently.

Looks good

Bit the bullet and removed the fuel tank and pulled out the pump/sender.
Thanks to Tommo we cleaned it up and successfully tested the sender.
I put it all back together and wired up the green to the yellow and the red/white to the yellow/blue ..... yes just swapped the fuel out light and the gauge wire. - IT WORKS. Also cut a new inspection flap in the tray so I can get to the pump from the top (I luv my spotwelder).
Note to anyone doing an R31 sender to an S13 cluster through Silvia loom - set the needle once you're sure it's at empty to read empty (even with the float at the top the gauge only reads 3/4) just turn it further than it normally wants to go and it will start from that spot.

I put it all back together again (blew a couple more fuses - don't know why). replaced fuses, rechecked the loom and ran the multimeter over suspect wires (illumination mainly).

Turned on every electrical thing I could find and kicked it over ... nothing blew up, everything works ..... HOOOORAYYY

Now to sort out those protruding front wheels - i have the TRX 15" mags
What size Tyers? - 185/50/15? (Stanza Struts)

I love how your electrics are all done up. Real class act and definitely a route to go. I went with the stock 1200 harness to run the accessories and ran the engine harness separate.

The only part I'm not crazy about is the air intake from the throttle plate to the mass air flow sensor. Looks kind of like a compromise. I'm in almost the same boat on mine, but I took the Battery and put it in the boot and have the air flow meter in the passenger fenderwell with a really short tube. Should make it much more responsive and keeps the tube from having to cross over the front. I'm not telling you to do things, especially since you really have no where else to put the battery and I'm sure there are a lot of reasons.

Great work on the ute! I'm following your thread carefully!

Pretty sure I had 185/50/15's on TRX rims on my previous ute and was running the Stanza struts and lower control arms. I had no issues with tyres hanging out from the guards (also didn't modify guards).

What size tyres have you currently got on the front?

Hi Andrew,

I have 195/70/15's on the TRX rims

185/70/13's on the white steel rims (the ones that pop out)

guess I will have to bite the bullet on new tyres

Here's a pic of what i am also trying to fit - it's a bit rough at the moment but you get the idea - I need a better spring solution
