Good luck with the task. I have just completed this one myself (Datsun 1200 coupe SR20 Turbo IPRA car) and it works out quite fast, but very challenging to drive..

The engine and gearbox are a bit hard to get in, have to do it from underneath only, it wont fit through the engine bay.

Fitting the tyres is also a real challenge.

The biggest problem we have had is cooling, trying to fit a decent sized radiator and intercooler whilst keeping the entire radiator support panel, as required by the rules is very difficult.

See the engine bay here.

Are you allowed to run a water spray set up mate? I did this on my 1200 while still running the stock 18mm thick radiator and it reduced temps by 10 degrees.

yep, already running water sprayers, and they seem to work quite well. (keep in mind the big thing in front is the intercooler, the small thing at the back is the radiator)

We have now been able to keep it cool with auxiliary radiators.

You can barely get a piece of paper between the firewall and the engine head, same between the crank pulley and the radiator. It is a very tight fit.

Ok, so it's been a long time, and a lot has happened since my last posts, mainly being busy with other commitments but the coupe is a LOT further on than previous photos.

Hardly even remember what came next... at about the time of removing the engine/box, the next step was to prepare the bay for the SR install. This would allow me to get the motor/box in and start arranging all the other bolt-on parts to suit the left over space.

At the same time as inserting the SR, I planned to have the front sus bolted in too, this would mean I can start looking at ride hight with the weight of the motor and ensure my guards were completed to suit.

I've painted some cars before, mainly track machines, and wasn't looking for a show job, so it all got completed in a single day (prep to completion), out it the open, in the back yard. Before paint, I also removed the battery bracket and all tabs etc.

As far as the colour goes, I've always been a fan of silver bays, it looks clean but you can easily spot oil leaks etc also... plus if I want to change the body color at some stage, I don't need to change the bay.

Here are some pics of the bay getting paint...

Ok, so need to resize all my photos, have over 100 of them showing the build, just need to time to get them all up.

The car however, is almost completed and has seen the track for the first time last weekend. A good shake-down, a few issues we didn''t see coming but a good first session all in all.

Here's a faily recent pic and an idea of the end result;
