I doubt if it would. Reportedly soemtimes will unseat if run to over 8000 RPM, the flywheel bolts get loose. It wouldn't cause the rattle problem you are hearing.

Your next step is to remove and inspect. I would be looking at the springs in the clutch disc (they often become loose), but I'm not sure it would cause a rattling sound.

Have you checked the clutch pedal cable clearance? Make sure it has 5mm clearance when you press on the pedal with your pinky finger. If there is no clearance it might be knocking against the clutch fingers.

Hydraulic clutch dd. L series not a series. Not sure if spinning l series over 8k has same issues as a series.

Transmission and clutch are built the same way.

The hydraulic setup still needs sufficient clearance. You can check it down at the fork arm end. Some L-series are spring loaded, but you can still check for sufficient free-play by puling the arm back.

Sounds like a slightly worn throwout bearing.
When the clutch pedal is in, the bearing is loaded up and ergo will not rattle if its just "loose" (if its close to collapse it will make noises under load, not off load)

my ca did this in my ae71 drift pig

it turned out the flywheel had come loose ,would drive fine but had a rattle at idle with the clutch released and the box out of gear ,with the clutch on the flywheel was pushed hard against the crank and the rattle went away

turned out Southside engine centre in perth had forgot to put the spigot in when they built it and put the clutch and flywheel on

never go there again ,only found this out after spending 3500 on my a15 ! good thing i put it togehter and double checked exerything

good luck mik!

We replacement box whines more than me on deceleration and mechanic reckons it definitely front main. Bearings in box not loose fly or thrust bearing.

Said try some nulon additive but won't last forever. Rather sort it properly as whines heaps.

Bad news is Bonnet didn't click properly so bonnet flipped up bending it. Didn't hit roof as scoop hit windscreen. Got those ugly speed rips in cowl now and a crap bonnet.

cars going back on ramps and can either try last unknown spare dogleg or try source something stronger... Unhappy times

Box out. throw out was noisey to spin by hand but checked spigot appears fine. No wobble by hand for fly. Clutch and plate feel and look fine.So new throw out in. Will get my.mechanic to check.clutch etc.Interestingly the starter seems to have.some play side to side and for and aft on its shaft. The gear pulls and pushes as expected.but I never expected play. Also moving sounds like a did bearing in there but does not match symptoms of the noise only engaging with clutch.out in n. Auto starter bigger so won't fit.Need to find a stumpy.shifter.and Speedo drive now. Different.pivot on.shifter.and.speedo.drive.on stumpy to 63a
