Heya guys!
I havent been on here for a longgggg time. i thought that i better pop back on here and give you some info on how my little datto ute is going...

So far you know that i brought this ute about a year and a half ago now. Its a datsun 1200 ute and the year 1977.
When i first got it it was in pretty rough condition. Neeeded alot of work, but i loved it! I had to have it!

My dads a mechanic and he remembered this car from about 10 - 12 years ago when it used to get around.

I have heard a few storys on it whilst having it for the year and a bit i have had it.
My boyfriend is a spraypainter and his old boss had painted it back in the day. It has been blue, white, candy apple red, and multi coloured with grafics up the side.
If any one can give me any info on its past history as i dont know all that much would be amazing, weather its good or bad lol :P

OK, well when i first got the little ute, i brought it with Simmons wheels and a 12a rotary and the mod plate for the lot. BUT, the motor was sitting in the back of the tray, the wheels were in crap condition and the body you could tell had had a raping (bod cracks everywhere). I was in for the long hall lol.

I have been working on it off and on for the last year and a half with the help of my father and boyfriend.

The engine bay had been painted with pressure pack paint BLACK and i rubbed that back, cleaned it up and shaved come stuff and the primed it.
I then ovusly rubbed the primer and painted it.
The paint i have chosen for it is Vixen red, Ford colour of the XR6/XR8's.
(you can see these pictures in the first ever post i put up)

I then started peicing back all the componets of the motor and me and dad have never working on a rotary in our lives BUT i have always loved them! always loved the sound and noise they make!

We then put the motor in. Now I always knew that rotarys are the best motors if you dont care for them and if they are left and sat around for a long time as the seals stick and brake when you try to wind it over.... So we filled the plug holes with transmission oil, and turned it over by hand a few time. we left it in the motor for 2 days, but whilst it was in there we still turned it over by hand everynight.
We then started it. we ovusly expected alot of smoke but There was #OOPS# loads!!! but then the smoke cleared, and it sounded amazing! We have now had the motor in the car and running for about 8-10months now and its perfect! no problems!!
The motor was sitting around for over 3-4years!

I then started on the body work, i took every panel back to bare metal with stripper discs. The body was bad!! If you can imagine 2-5 inchs of bog, fibreglass, paint and rust then thats what i had through out the whole body of my ute. mainly bog and fibreglass, but rust in both seals, and all the way aloong the bottoms of the rear quater seal panels.

I have now replaced 2x doors, 2x front gaurds, 2x rear quaters, tailgate, bonnet, 2x seal panels, back beaver panel and pretty much everything else you can think of!

I have great plans for this ute, and i hope to have it on the road within the next 3-6months!!

i have brand new taillights, headlights, every crome peice on the car has been replaced!
2 different girlls to choose from, early model (metal) and newer version (plastic). I have got my simmons V4s cleaned and fixed up by True wheels launceston. I have got all new interier. New tyres and LOTS more.

In the year and a half i have owned this 1200 i have spent just on $9,200 on it.

I forgot, Its mod plated!
Engineneered for 12A rotary, Front suspension (Early skyline), wheel and tyre size (205x65x15)front and (195x50x15) on the back. Diff and gearbox as the gearbox tunnel had to be cut out and replaced. :)

I love it

I have fender mirrors for it. and i also have finally found a front spoiler i have always wanted. :P

:) Heres a few pictures :)

if you where born on the date of your avatar that means you where 10 years old for the steel flares :)

The only issue with rotarys is the cost of rebuild these days since mazda put their prices up 3 fold. Great that its engineered for it.

nice looking ute

4k for a rebuild was it just oem spec or ported with different apex seals? i got quoted 2500 + extras. the mazda re-build kit alone is 1100 dollars i thought

yeah the kit is around 1000, 2500+ is a good price, thats what i paid 7 years ago
the 4k quote was just oem spec, but was for a complete build supplying all new parts where available
rather than a simple seal kit through a second hand engine
