The blocks are the same length and height. But the crank and the timing cover on the Z motor is longer by about an inch. The position that I set the Z motor was with the oil pan sump aft of the sway bar and the crank pulley forward of it. There was not much room to spare on either side. With the KA shorter, the pulleys going to interfere with the sway bar.
On the Z motor, I made the forward oil pan sump. To clear the cross member, I made the pan shallow in the back. Shallow enough to clear the crank. The forward was deep to make up the difference for the oil. I don't feel like making a new pan for the KA so I might just modify the cross member and cut out the sway bar.
I didnt work on it today. Had other stuff to do.

Tomorrow I'm going to try and push the car out of the garage and pressure wash the engine bay. I have my spare engine block mounted to my tranny. I'm going to use it to make the mods on the car. I have a spare head to use as well. Need to fit the exhaust too. And of course the new intake.

Pushed the car out today for a engine bay pressure wash. Letting it dry and I'll be ready for some serious welding.

Found this in my files.
The day I brought it home and after the body work was completed and car was primed.
A picture of my late B210 as well. Could not find any for my late 510.

Here's what the motor supercharger set up will look like. The KA intake is going to be chopped and the aluminum pipe will be welded on to accept the supercharger pipe. Due to tight spaces, Im using a bottom mount turbo header. No turbo, just room to bring the exhaust pipe up from underneath. The S14 performance header stick out to far and hits the steering box. With mods to the Crossmember, this motor will fit right in.

It was bureaucrats the passed the bumper law. The "big three" american car manufacturers opposed it as it made their cars look ugly too.

And some Australian cars have them too. Like the more expensive Sunnys. Think of some poor Aussie who paid EXTRA to get them!

Yesterday I had some time from house stuff and snuck into the garage for a bit.
I got the crossmember modified so the KA oil pan will fit. I didnt cut the sway bar yet. I want the motor in there first to see exactly where it will be.

To make the crossmember, I took to 14 inch long 90 degree angle pieces of steel and welded them into a "C" channel. Centered it and clamped it to the bottom of the crossmember and welded two short 4 inch pieces to each end.I welded a flat piece of steel to the bottome center of the channel so I would have a place to support a floor jack. On top, I cut out the top half of the crossmember and finished with some angles at each end. I cleaned and grinded but still had a little bit of oil ans crap left over so my welds are a little messy. I have never clammed to be an expert welder.
The holes you see out front are attachments for chaining down the motor. I started chaining my motor down a few years ago after I torqued it to hard and ripped a rubber motor mount.
I have a spare engine block and head so Im going to put it in as a mock up. to build the engine mounts and check for exhaust clearence.
After all that, its repainting the engine compartment and simplize all my electrical wiring. Over the years after adding more components, I added more wire runs. Im going to try and clean it all up.
I hope to soon cut into the KA intake and rebuild the Holley 600 carb.
