Hi guys this is what im planning to get done convert the 8 port into 4 port but am worried that the gasket is going to get in the road and restrict flow. The gasket will be slightly moded.Anyway this is the head after being converted.Im begining to think that a standard 4 port head will be better as i have the opertunity to buy one.

Supercheap, Repco, Autobarn. Any auto parts supplier has rolls of gasket paper in different thicknesses.

funny that but true the 4 port is the choice for even the similar RB engines for a good reason. The 8 ports have more low end turbulence which only is good with the extra butterfly setup and for NA only. For boost 4 ports all the way.

1200aud for ported 8 port might as well go 4 ports right up

Hi guys i need ppl's expert opinion on what i want to do or should do,will an 8 port head converted into a 4 port have better characteristics than a standard euro 4 port as the port will be much bigger than the euro 4 port.Is there such thing as going to big?

8 port is enough for most people as spending 1200 on making an 8 port to a 4 port is quite pricey. Also if bigger was better then even toyota 4age would have stayed with their big port head but went smaller. With boost the 8 port is more than fine just needs some good match porting and secondary butterflys removed, tigged smoothed out etc.
What are you after in terms of performance? a stock ca18det is capable of 200hp atw without too much effort.
