Hi all,
I have a clutch problem in my mighty datto
The clutch seems not to work at all
Here in portugal most 1200 have hidraulic clutch. no cable.
I have checked for the fluid level, it's ok no leak
The clutch appears to be glued in some way. maybe by corrosion on the plate disk
Any ideas to diagnose the problem?
Pedro

could be a heap of things. the techys are better than me here, but 1. by clutch glued, you mean that yo have no movement in the clutch pedal or you cant change gears or both?
If you dont have any movemnt in the pedal, the problem could be that the thrust bearing has come loose from the fork.
or perhaps the fork has gone too far forward and jammed the thust bearing against the pressure plate
just a coupla ideas though. depends on what the pedal is doing and what you can do with the car. can you still chage gears kinda, no movement in the pedal,
more details and I might be able to help thanks
ps I have a thread in off topic about a uni assignment. Do you mind if I link to this website. I have to ask is all for permission thanks.

I have movement on the pedal
I can only start the engine on neutral. the clutch has no efect if it is pressed and in Gear
Once the engine starts, I cant shift any gear, with the pedal down.
It means when I press the clutch in Neutral, dnd the engine is running I still have movent on the gear box.

So what your saying is your clutch is doing nothing?
I had this problem in my 1600 with hydrolic clutch. Try checking the cluch resivior and if its empty top it up then press the cluctch about 20 times and you will regain some clutch. This is only a temporary solution and you will need to fix the leak in your hydrolic system.
this is if your clutch isnt working, and the pedal feels "light".

Hi Pedro,
If you have movement at the gearbox, the disc may be "stuck" to the pressure plate or flywheel. This is common in humid areas near the sea, when a car sits for a period of time. One way to fix this is: 1. warm the engine up 2. Turn it off, put in first gear and crank it. Hopefully it will start in gear and start moving 3. depress the clutch pedal and floor the accelerator pedal, possibly the shock will break it free
Also, check that there is enough free play at the gearbox.
If there is no movement of the lever at the gearbox, the master cylinder is probably leaking internally. This too is not uncommon. Solution here is to replace or rebuild the clutch master cylinder.

Hi Pedro Sounds like a VERY similar problem i had last summer - you said.. "Once the engine starts, I cant shift any gear, with the pedal down." This was the case with my 1200 ute and it was the release/thrust bearing. I think if you have checked the basic visuals around the hydraulic system eg. Slave cylinder, master cylinder and find no leaks or drop in the fluid levels, I would drop the gearbox and you can tell pretty much straight away if the thrust/release bearing is bad.. it will perhaps even look collapsed or sound REALLY bad as it spins on the input shaft. You could eevn just unclip it from the 2 srpings and spin the race in your hand if it feels grindy/noisey etc.. it's bad. Once you have the part it's easy to put back in.. Just my thoughts - worth a shot i say if you can take your car off the road for a day. Cheers
