Hi all
I am looking at doing a l16 conversion on my ute which is currently regoed in QLD with an a14 an would like to know if it will need to be engineered. I have no idea about what the laws are in regards to this so if you could school me it would be very appreciated.

Cheers,

Any engine swap needs to be engineered.

It just changed:

Quote:
Queensland transport:

Please note: From 1 May 2013, the Code of Practice: Light Motor Vehicles will no longer be an approved code of practice for vehicle modifications, and no Approved Person will have approval to issue certifications under this code of practice.
Now they are using the national guidelines: VSI L20.0 – Engine modifications under the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification

Doesn't that let you "owner certify" up to 15% larger engine?

How about calling an engineer? They have to stay up to date on these matters as they put their name to whatever they sign off on.

Read the adr s and the Queensland transport stuff.

Unless it was offered as an option here in aus, and fitted with no mods, then no, you need to engineer it in simple terms.

No L series b110 was factory sold in aus.

Going from the original A12 to an L16 is more than a 15% increase.

The existing VSI doesn't say anything about changing the engine types requiring engineer certification, only if it exceed 15% does it require engineer certification. Below that it can be "owner certified" -- you still have to fill out paperwork.

You can check the latest specifications yourself.
