Things on the duck are starting to suck.... I started working on it tonight to get it on the road. Missing starter bolt.. Fixed, charge light fixed (bad alternator), missing rocker cover bolt had to drill and Tap a thread in head gently. Done. Tighten loose calipers bolt done.


Well drilling and tapping the rocker bolt was ok til I went to put the cover back on, I forgot to remove a bolt from the cover and it fell down the front cover between the chain and cover. Went to get the magnet..... It dropped before I could get the magnet.

Fark! So now motor has to come out. Drained oil hoping it may have worked its way through by luck.... No luck. Would have better chances at tattslotto.

So think I will drop the Sump first, if its not there front cover has to come off, which means head gasket too. Im crap out of luck.

Can I use rtv red or there bond on Sump and timing cover. I have no spare gaskets.

When it rains, it pours.

If the bolt made its way to the oil sump, just leave it there. It won't go through the oil pickup screen.

Mik, your latest method of lowering the centre of gravity is genius. Three quacks for you!

What a raw deal, right there!
Get a hold of auto surplus and ask for a price in those gaskets! Shouldn't cost too much, otherwise it will be a vrs kit... (They're usually peaking busy so call back often if they don't.)

Well I got the bolt! Right where I thought it would be.
Didn't trust my cranes hydraulic with me lying under car so I cut some wood and used the rhs beam off the crane as such





So I had to drop the away bar the x member, draglink and other stuff but got the Sump off fairly easily. I wanted to best the dents out of it too.



And there it was



So I checked out my bottom end and seemed ok, but I've never seen these marks in a crank before



So put it all back together and found more missing bolts on.car, a manifold bolt, a ball joint bolt. Lucky I like to be preventative.

Need new inner tie rods, rest look newish.

The drill holes in the counterweight are done during crank balancing

dude you should invest in a magnet. You can buy one of those goodies that looks like a screwdriver and pulls out like a radio aerial they are very handy. I'm sure it would have worked through the sump hole.Anyway you have got it done.Goodluck with the rest.
