Hi all, I have a completely stock A14 motor that I am going to get fully reconditioned.

It will be a daily drive, so I'm not aiming for huge horsepower gains, just something which is fun to drive, reliable and strong, but with a little more extra poke from standard.

This is what I'll be running on it: 32/36 downdraught weber, 4 to 1 extractors with 2 inch system right through and electronic ignition.

So my question is: What other things should I possibly do to the engine to gain a little more extra horsepower?

Again I want it to be reliable and strong.

Port match the intake, mandrel bent exhaust, careful attention to tuning (dyno) and cold air intake.

Best option for extra power in my opinion is a gx head. But they usually go for 1000 bucks. Depends on your budget. If i had a grand to spend on my a series thats what i would buy

get electric fan. mechanical fan is parasitic loss to the engine. fit a12 flywheel if you can find one.

No budget in mind yet. The performance upgrades I have in mind are:
Port n polish, including match porting the inlet manifold.
Mild cam grind suitable for street/daily driving.
Slightly oversize bore.

What benefits would a lightened flywheel have over the stock A14 flywheel, apart from getting up in the revs quicker?

As I say, I want a relible and strong motor which will last me for years.
