Never been done. It is a bit too wide and since the SR20VE makes more power its not used.

Just chasing something that is different, I have even been looking up the ford Essex v4... But something newer would be easier I'm guessing.

Ford V4 would be different. But low power.

Why not fit a QR20DE or HR? No ones done that yet.
Or a repco v8.

There have been a couple 1200s fitted with VQ35. But none to my knowledge with VQ20.

I'd love to put a 35 in it but I wouldn't be able to get it registered. But what I am wondering is about the vq20 and 30 are almost the same except for bore diameter, so I was wondering about doing the conversion and getting it through engineering and converting it to the 30 but retaining the vq20 block... It would be a weapon if possible

VG20E is your best bet, they can handle 500hp boosted and are much narrower than the DE heads of VG and VQ not to mention slightly more compact design than the VQ.
I know its a cast iron block alloy head but they are a gem of a motor, look old skool and easy to source without the need for excessive wiring or bracketry built onto the more complicated vq20de. Also heaps of after market parts for VG and easy to put tripple downdraft IDF, IDGs or sixtuplets of modern R1 41mm or honda 48mm bike carbs.
Otherwise you can go injection from factory or downdraft TB holley injection very cheap unit
