What revs are you pulling in 4th & 5th gears. Maybe you should actually go back to a 4.1:1 ratio, to make 5th gear a bit more usable. What engine is in the Sunny? I seem to remember a CA18 turbo powered one in pictures.

Just a general question, how sought after are the 4.625 h190 alloy units? I've located two but was actually after the 165, came across the 190s by mistake.

Bert,

I am sure you probably already have this but I have 3 gearing charts for the 3 different tires brand/sizes I use. I keep track of how many shifts per laps based on gearing of each tire. I also did some rough calculations based on timed gained by using lower gears versus the extra shift. I had previously run a 4.11 rear gear but went to a 4.38 and smaller diameter tire as I was nowhere near redline in top gear. It also allowed me to drop down a gear in a couple of places and get a better drive off the corners. The extra drive also helped out top speed wise on one of the long uphill straights as the car tends to hit the aero-wall, granted it was barely 100 RPMs more but every bit helps.

Before you flair the guards have you given thought to just running the taller tires on the rear for faster tracks and using a slightly different offset wheel?

Tom

Thanks for all the replies fellas,we will be resolving the problem with taller, wider tyres.I could go on and on about pro,s and cons of tyres/diffs/different wheels etc.but it comes down to cost effectivness verses bang for bucks. We should,nt complain too much and are only looking for minute gains after running it now for 5 years or so,punching well above what it should be doing finishing between 5th and around 12th outright at Morgan Park super sprints against all commers with 150k budgets and cars to match in a field of around 120 starters
