Hi guys, pretty new to this but here we go. I'm buying a 77 1200ute thats recently had a body resto on it, from what i can tell it been done quite well.
it has the a12 motor and a bit of a sad webber attached to it at the moment, but that no drama.
the thing thats doing my head in a bit is the brake set up thats on it, Ive searched heaps of forums for similar issues and can only find parts of what i need.
so this bloke wanted to update the brakes, yep cool, everyone wants to from what i can see, he's put in 120y struts with discs, and a 1600 booster, now the brake pedal sits about 100mm higher than the clutch pedal and its hard as a rock, super skecty to drive with.
Ive spoken with Scott from mad dat and he reckons somethings defiantly not right. I'm going to have another look at the car tomorrow and I'll be taking many photos, not quite sure of how to upload them on here yet but I'm sure i will figure it out.
Thanks in advance :) Josh

Its using the wrong length pushrod. That'll require the pedal be backed off higher, but also cause hair-trigger brakes.
What I would do is remove the booster and fit a stock 1200 master cylinder. No need for a booster.

I would say the wrong length and angle (at a guess, if the pedal is so far out the angle is bound to be wrong too) has caused the reaction disc in the booster to break, which means if you breathe on the pedal it locks them up. Could have been broken before, people seem to think the pushrod is a handle when boosters are removed. JD

yeah, I defiantly see what you mean, I had a quick look just before, took a heap of photos as well, i think he may have adjusted the clutch out since i looked at it last (or my memory was exaggerating haha) because the pedal difference isnt as bad as i thought.
I think ddgonzal is right tho, just get rid of the booster all together and run the original MC, I hate the feeling of hard brakes especially at any kind of speed, just feels like im a tad too close to doing a 180
ill try upload those photos now, bear with me haha

Nice ride mate, it's nice to have assisted brakes that's if u can get the problems sorted that is. U might end up with some extra unwanted holes if u remove it. Cheers Corey

It looks to me that the Master cylinder is too long on the inside of the firewall. this means the pedal sits out too far, with no hope of adjusting it in. The good news is the 120Y struts you have work really well with an unassisted 11/16ths master cylinder from a 1200 coupe. Remove the booster, fit a new master cylinder & your problem should disappear. I've used this setup in a 1200 wagon to outbrake a Commodore Highway Patrol car from 120 k's. Almost ran into the back of me when he was pulling me over. You should also change the rear wheel cylinders to suit the 11/16ths size, or the rear shoes will wear out faster than they should.
