I am playing a very frustrating waiting game! The new wideband turned up, but the new usb to serial adaptor didn't(ordered on May 21). I'm still trying to sort it out with him through ebay!

I've been playing with other projects while I wait for the adaptor. I started to make an engine test stand for the A series engines so I can put them on the dyno without a car. Mounted a commodore radiator to the cooling fan, and started on a basic frame.

Once this Turbo project is done, Ive got a VNT turbo to try. with the test stand, I wont have to build a dump pipe and it will be a bit easier to work on.

Computer Parts Land sell serial converters for not much, I've had a good run out of these: http://cplonline.com.au/adaptors/usb/ ... er-35cm-cable-uc232a.html, they're local to so usually pretty quick.

I'll be interested to see how you go with the VTN turbo, I've read they're a bit limited on temperature (why they're generally only on diesels) but maybe this wont be an issue with e85? Any idea what pre-turbo EGT's you're running with e85?

Thanks for the link. The one ive ordered is supposed to be ok. It did cost a lot more than that one though! The ebay seller says he will send another if it doesn't arrive by tomorrow...

There has been a few reputable guys that have run these type of turbos without dramas on the EFI Uni forum. Gives me some confidence it will last anyway.

My race car pre turbine temps are around 880-900c(E85). It used to be around 980c, but it dropped a bit when the cam overlap was reduced a bit.

The variable vane turbo I bought wont be a big power unit as the compressor is only 52mm. I want to try it with an auto and see how early It will come on. I'm hoping around 2500 RPM. That's what the engine test stand will be for initially. I'l just use the wiring loom and ecu from the current project. It will only be a 5 min job to swap between the two.

I hope it goes well, to me VNT turbos are technically the BoM, earlier boost and minimal exhaust manifold pressures across the operating range. Maybe cost has an impact on why OEM don't use them on SI engines? I might ask some of the ex Auto guys I work with.

Fingers crossed, The one ive got is an early one from a 2004 Nissan patrol. I just like trying stuff. Without any overlap on the cam, the egt's should be ok. I have a few intercoolers laying around that will help if the temps get too high.

Will make for some cool vids if nothing else!!

Ive done a bit more tuning on the single injector setup... Im happy with it, but it's doing somthing a bit weird at part load, between 2k and 2500 rpm. It seems to be poor mixture preparation caused by a certain throttle opening causing the fuel to drop out of suspension. It is fixed by preheating the air going into the throttle body. I dont think it would be a problem if the manifold was water heated or the factory exaust manifold was still bolted to the inlet. Without preheating the air, no amount of timing change or fueling change fixes it. Its perfect at every other rpm and load, but i would like to improve this rough running at this small spot.
I'm thinking of bumping the fuel pressure or maybe trying a small air deflector that changes the the direction the air moves at low throttle openings. It not a big prob, but would like to have it better.
