Hello All,
Sorry I have not come back to you, been a very busy guy.
Now I have sourced a A14 and am thinking I will work that as suggested, I was thinking SR20 with ITB's but I really don't want to hack the car to fit the engine and gearbox. I am a bit this or that with it all as far as the engine is concerned as this car is very original and as I want to keep it nice and 'in keeping' but want more power.
So the couple questions I have are:
Does anyone know or had a SR20 on ITB's conversion done and what alterations needed to be done for it all to fit?
Also for a A14 what engine work would you suggest?
Thanks guys I will look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Dave

hi Dave there's quite few sr20's and also A14 engines on this site. The SR chaps use the SR20ve --well those that can get hold of it or afford it [on this site -- racetech].The A14 is used with A15 crank -- can push 100kw easily or you can go overboard like the Porto ricans on youtube. google'' Cocoliso jeep with A15 turbo'' For the Sr gotta stroke the gearbox tunnel a little and A14/A15 the engine mounting points differ on crossmember. So whatever floats your boat. https://youtu.be/SAUsM8NOy6k

Hello,
I have been told that the A14 drops straight in to the A12 mounts and marries up to the gearbox nicely which also handles the power increase well (with the engine being tickled as well), which makes it all the more tempting - Are you saying this is not the case?!?!
I would love the rumble of a worked A14 but just trying to get my head around all the options and ideas out there..... and even maybe turbo the A14 one day but that is not on the books at this point.
Thanks I will have a good look around the site in the next couple days.
Thanks again.
Dave

You will need A12A engine mounts to match to A14. Easy enough to find. Gearbox will handle power if it is a smoothcase 56A from later model 1200s. Early model are 56 and will not handle torque. Also your diff if a H145 will be ok as long as you dont work it too hard. If going for twin webers, injection or turbo would suggest upgrading diff as well.

Yes, A12A engine mounts are the same as A12 mounts. The Datsun 1200 4-speed will be OK with an A14. A modded A14 will generally have less torque, so still no problem with the transmission. See A-series Engine Swaps for photos and details.

Yes, the A14 drops straight in to the A12 mounts (with 1974 or newer 1200s) and marries up to the gearbox nicely which also handles the power increase well.
I think it is the best engine swap: inexpensive and easy yet with 17% more horsepower. And plenty of modification potential for more HP later on.

Hello,
Right, I have made a decision and I am going the A14 path in my 1200!
I am in the process of getting the engine already, but now contemplating two things a fully 'of the time' tuned N-A A14 or a Turbo'd A14?
I do not want to cut any body work and transmission tunnels etc as the car is so mint I really want to try and keep it that way.......but with more HP!
Now.....Can any of you lovely folk please help on this,
1 - Give me a list of parts and 'to dos' for hotting up the A14 in N-A format?
2 - Give me a list of parts and 'to dos' for Turbo charging the A14?
Thanks so much in advance, as I have said I am new to the 1200 world and I am totally loving it and very keen to get the project on the go!
Best regards,
Dave

Depends how far you want to go? A15 crank --peter zekert sells cranks, 78 or 79mm bore,if you like gx head or stick to A14 head, bigger valves, double spring,[shikes cant even remember what springs i have]port & flow [lot of sizes you can get by forum chaps]power is made in the head.--pistons well depends if you want to go NA or turbo, electronic distributor, throttle bodies or carbs [opinions differ],flywheel.DDgonzal is actually the chap to speak to about mods.--valve sizes, spring rates etc.he's prob sleeping --will chip in with all the answers -- time diff

Just remember that an A15 crank in an A14 just gives you an A15. So unless A15 is very rare where you live, just use an A15 to start with. The A14 has a big advantage in that you don't need to upgrade the rear axle. * For naturally aspirated, expect to spend $5000 to get 100 hp * For turbo'ing an A14, expect to spend $3000 to get 150 hp See Turbo and Engine buildup

Dave it's difficult to advise -- This is what i had done:A14 motor, A15 crank, 79mm pistons[opel or in your case vauxhall]A14 head port gas and flow, double springs[not datsun]bigger valves, laser cut intake face, had intake made from that [itb]got t/bodies from UK zx6 which are 38mm and zx10 injectors, dizzy is changed now a hall-type,Vw radiator, blocked off old fuelpump and used VW combi pump with fuel regulator,5 speed ute gearbox, alfa junior lsd,drive-shaft is the same in front just gotta change the back and length [allow for weight in car]almost forgot cam was done,OH another thing Gotech Mini X ECU --dyno end result with probs i had almost 100kw -- base map.I would love a TURBO set-up but when i pay i want results-- not s/bodies crap cos he's in a hurry to take your money.BUT you are in the centre of m/sport R & D so you can pick and choose.SOOooo lets look at choice of goods: HEAD- GX or A14; V/springs good tuner can help,DIZZY hall type or another datsun/nissan elec dizzy [i think VW also works with a few changes]PISTONS - your choice you may want 78mm. FLYWHEEL --lightened or you get 6kg and 9kg i think it is on datsun sites but most are going to tell you not to go too light cos it's bugger to drive-- BALANCE e/thing.CARBS/throttle bodies -- could use hayabusa.ECU -- i see you chaps in the UK have a wide range even the Spitronics from RSA as per ad in Japanese performance/Banzai. Make sure you make good HP [turbo, turbo turbo]and let them do a write-up about the 1200 cos i've had enough GTR's 200sx,rotary etc.TIME FOR DATSUN 1200 now
