you can also safely engineer anything in the SA area
if you go to maddat he will help you with conversions.

I would suggest depending on how game you are to consider
an L16 sleeved by a number of engine places to suit a
Ka24de head gasket and +1mm OS KA24de 90mm pistons final
bore and hone done using datsport head plate made by Bas
for the L series for this kind of work.
L18 crank and shortened prepped LD28 diesel rods.
138mm c-c gives 1.761 rod stroke ratio.

This will give you 1985cc in an L16 block, use Toyota 18rg
front crank cog, Z20 front cover and Ka24de head, R1 bike carbs,
headers and NISSAN HARDBODY 2.4L 16V (KA24DE) ELEC. DIST.

A non pollution engine with 160 factory hp ate is possible
using stock camshafts and 10.5 comp.

lol, well said...

people spend in excess of $10,000 building frankenengine's to suit certain classes of motorsport

there is absolutely no point building that (and then trying to tune it) unless you have strict regulations and you really really really want those $20 trophies they hand out

KAL20DE can be had for very cheap if you do wrecker runs and spend less
than a grand on machining and prepping, its all L series mainly and
much better than a twin turbo A series in terms of results and looks
also better than white or yellow painted dash in a 1200 coupe.

Here in Japan people dream of finding L series and A series in wrecking yards
or even a cheap A12 to play with, they are rare here.

Mx5 donks are common and pollution issues are a challenge like california.

How many $20.00 trophies for $10k dollars, Or up the ante and buy $150.00 tropies instead and really look the part Duh!!

Frankenmotor really I think this thread started about this is free how cheap and effective will it be to use, In that case one also has to consider the sale value of a getting harder to find Datsun 5 speed and A series OE Engine that may or may not be a stocker and hence cannot be valued with no information.

Potentially doing the work yourself the Mazda conversion may break even or make a small return with the sale of parts no longer wanted, After all MX5 gearboxes are like grass seeds they are common wheras the A series 5 speed is becoming harder to find and more valuable.

Lampy has done a Frankengine for his 1600 and does not care for the cheap trophies, hes done it cause he wanted to, loves his car, cheaper than an LZ conversion all done up, wanted to be different and could afford to.

Staying Nissan helps in many ways
