For experienced racers. What option wud u use?? These are restrictions for loca! Clubman class. Multi valve engines must retain stock valve sizes, variable valve timing engines must retain standard camshafts,no programmable ignition, carbs limited to 38 chokes. No turbos or methanol allowed.

1st generation n/a sr20 on webers 2296lbs/1041 KGS
A15 1845lbs/839kgs
L16 1874lbs/852kgs
Ga16 2028lbs/922kgs

Those are weights we have to run for specific CCS and valves.
Car is a 310 sunny.

Thanks for input.

What sort of tracks/racing? My concern with A15 is that it comes from wagons and vans... smooth torque - no horsepower. They dont rev out well with standard cams becuase the intended use was hauling loads. Ok if your going up hill with no sharp bends....

Here is my take:

First what are the likely power outputs of each engine. An example the L16 and A15 weights are 30lbs apart but invented in stock trim the L16 makes 15 more horsepower. Also you, need to consider gearbox rules a high strung engine will need a proper gearbox.

Next what are the tracks or track you will be racing on like? The difference between the SR20 and L16 is 400lbs, at a low to medium speed circuit I'd give up some power for a lighter car.

Lastly what is your budget? Let's say you could have any of the engines for free, the big expense is going to be tires and fuel, the more powerful heavier car will use more tires and fuel. A car that is easier on tires make make it possible to keep fresh rubber.

My coupe makes the whole season on a set of tires, I buy them in the fall and so end one season on fresh tires and then start the next season on tires that are still good. Like you I have a choice of engines but stick with the A-series, since I have spares but also because it's the most budget friendly. Just something to consider.

Tom

Under 1600 is dominated by b16A eg civic...so I wud like 130-140hp flywheel from A series or 160hp from L16. 5 speed H pattern dog boxes are allowed. I have one left over from my previous mk1 escort.

Track is not long to be honest average straight is àlil over 1/8 mile,4 of them, plus two hairpin turns and other flowing turns.

Tyres have to be Dot rated greater than 100 threadwear.only things I have to pay for are parts to build engine..have access to machine shop and fuel sponsor. Fuel will be Vp109 or C16.

Have raced most my life with escorts, even though I have had many Datsuns, this first race car.

Thanks.
