Good stuff, another source for 79 mm pistons is the Daihatsu MIra !! They also are 3 cylinder and the turbo models have forged pistons and I am assured by someone who has done it the wrist pin bores suit the A series rod diameter. They are not cheap to buy retail but I'm sure everyone knows someone who can get a discount price .

I have a A1400 block bored out to 79mm sitting in the shed for sale if anyone is interested? It is a bare block ie, no crank, no cam, no covers, it has got pistons and conrods sitting in the bores. It has done about 2000k's, nothing wrong with it.

I haven't yet determined final compression ratio, but I am using the open chambered "H72" oval port head, so it will be around 10.25 to 1.

Pardon me for asking, but did you say that this motor was going to be supercharged? If your going to force feed it with that sort of compression, you'll have to run methanol.

Forgive me also if this has been discussed before, but what is the biggest holes anyone has put in an A12 block? (And I don't mean the side of the block either)

I've just noticed that custom made 79mm bore A-series gaskets are available at:

I am having a batch of double faced steel/composition centre, rolled fire ring gaskets being hand made at the moment.
Crush thickness will be 1.1mm.

More details when they are in stock.

You're right, That C.R. would be too high for the blower with gasoline. I'm still waiting on the inner valvesprings for final assy. Once I actually determine the C.R. I will decide what I will use. Perhaps I will end up using my Redline manifold with twin 44 Dellortos.

Perhaps I should not have had the block decked .065" if using the blower was in mind then. Maybe 10.25 to 1 was an overestimate as well. I'll know soon and post the results.

A14force: is that a blower on your car? In your avatar the carb is sitting very high.

Great news about the gasket availability guys. Open in new window
Right now, I am using the Nismo gasket and they cost $75 US each! :-The Nismo catalog also list an 80mm metal head gasket! Same price.

I just finished my A-15 project. Bored over 3mm. The nice thing about going that far over is the unshrouding of the valves. You will no longer need to have the pockets milled in the top of the bores for the valves. I found a GX head and wanted to run on pump gas so I needed to get pistons custom made with fairly deep dish. I had Venolia make the pistons and Deves made the rings. Pistons are forged with 12cc dish, giving me a CR of 9.75:1...perfect for pump gas. I am using the NISMO head gasket. Its been in the car now 3 weeks, and all seems fine. I can now keep up with modern traffic .
