On my side of the fence Ill be very happy myself
when I get my single or twin cylinder diesel engine
to power my bike using hydraulic drive setup

V16 would be nice for a generator powering a town!

Cadillac V-16 was one of the rarest cars ever made

By contrast a V12 is almost commonplace. Ive seen some in the budget wrecking yards (jag, bimmer, etc.)

Aero Dynamic Coupe was the rarest but all amazing things to come out
right at the start of the world recession. Imagine driving these things
past poor hungry beggars, something very uncomfortable for normal folk.

I prefer the flat heads over the ohv versions

Caddy did a modern concept car... the Cadillac 16

They also built some prototype OHC V12is in the mid 60's but never went to production

The old stuff for me, the new stuff just doesnt have that hand craft feel

Id love a s/v L4 with blowthrough turbo setup, just a small snail
to bring efficiency up as they dont rev much w/ diesel like torque
at low rpm specially boosted.

Flathead V8,s sound great but block notorious for cracking when over heated

there were better made flatties by other makes
especially with more main bearings and better
cooling solutions. There are easily 2 dozen
Flatties that came before and after that were
better than Fords leading mass produced items.

Today newly cast ford flathead blocks have all
its issues solved are are making over 400hp

Packard and Chrysler 6 - 8 had around 5 litres
and straight from factory made 270-300lbs of torque
at a lazy 1600 rpm just like diesel engines but
with 6:1 to 8:1 compression ratio.

Direct injection of today with twin sparkplugs
and serious ignition could bring compression up to
11:1 and even more with swirl designs as used by
Jaguar v12 and Mazda Skyactive principles or boost.

Better heat proof coatings, electric water pumps
and M/Benz styled pre chambers on the runners leading
to the sidevalve would be easily implemented and
theoretically take such a platform to 40+% efficiency

However its reliability would be too good for the short
life cycles and servicing manufacturers prefer to
make after sales profits.
