The MPG was a 2-door sedan (for lightness), A14 (for more torque at lower RPMs maybe), and 5-speed (for lower RPMs meaning less friction = more fuel economy). They never used the A12 for the MPG models

Quote:
Sunny has a thrifty 1.2 litre engine with 4-speed manual or the optional 1.5 litre with a 3-speed automatic and gas-saving Lock-up Torque Converter. Choose your own fuel pump. Sunny runs -- on any gas.
In 1981 most cars sold in Canada required Unleaded due to having a catalyst. But not the Sunny, it could run on the cheapest regular gasoline

1981 was also the year they came out with the Super Luxury model

Well now I know my 210 car options.
I had a SL hatchback with the A15 and 5 speed in 926 Regal Mist. 🙂

i am endlessly fascinated that Nissan Canada named a special version of the B310 the "Sunny"

Nissan North America thought "210" was a better name so all USA/CANADA B310 carried "Datsun 210" badges, but Canada slapped the Sunny name on a stripper model of the 210

Quote:
ENJOY SUNNY DAYS ALL YEAR.

Precious few cars sell for less than the Sunny, and no car in its class gives you a better value for your dollar.

- Sunny has a thrifty 1.2 litre engine with a 4-speed manual or the optional 1.5 litre with 3-speed automatic and gas saving Lock-up Torque Converter. Choose your own pump. Sunny runs — on any gas.

But don't expect to get what you paid for. Expect more! Sunny is loaded and ready to go, with a colour coordinated steering wheel, easy-care vinyl upholstery, heavy duty heater with 3-speed fan and bi-level flow-through ventilation, electric rear window defroster, swing open rear windows, coat hooks and a vinyl floor mat. All standard.

No car in its class does so much, so well, for so little.

MPG edition of the 1981 Datsun 210 (model B310)

48 imperial miles per gallon (40 US mpg), so good it drives right past

* 5-speed is the key to the high efficiency
* standard pinstripe
* standard 3-piece bumpers (OPTION in Australia and Japan)
* standard styled wheels with beauty rings

WE DIDN'T JUST CALL IT MPG.
IT EARNED IT

The Datsun 210 2-door Deluxe MPG is in a class of one. It is one of Canada's most efficient gas miser ever to laugh at an OPEC price hike.

It is powered by Datsun's performance-proven 1.4 litre engine and it comes equipped with 5-speed, BSW radial tires, styled steel wheels, low back bucket seats with adustable head rests, electric rear window defroster, side window defoggers, tinted glass, and lots of quality touches like front and rear ash trays, coat hooks, front passenger assist straps, and more.

Pick a job and the MPG will do it: the family second car, the to-town-and-back commuter car, the first car for the youngsters ... in fact the Most Perfect Gift with more Miles Per Gallon.

New Ride Dave?
Mine was a 1982 with square gauges and that paint does not look like regal mist. That looks more red-orange than maroon.

ha, that photo was taken in my driveway in 2012

my current ride is a Camry. Nice in many ways, quiet, powerful, reliable but not very sporty. Kinda like Ford only better
