I moved the shell from the back shed to the front shed to test fit the engine and bought a BW78 diff to get shortened.
pictures a plenty many with measuring the space left in the engine bay (available on request) ... here's a few ... oh and you can also see where the standard gearshift will come out :)

Nice

that diff looks like what Chevrolet Camaro came with in 1987, including the finned alloy calipers. they called it "the australian 9-bolt axle"

thanks for the pics

Your floor tunnel looks like an automatic tunnel what with the square opening and the four screw holes for the console

The new shifter hole needs to be centered about? 4" aft of the center of the original 1200 automatic shifter hole?

i used STGthumb for windows to get these down to a postable byte size (same resolution as before).

I didn't like the angle that the gearbox and motor were on and the fact that the dump pipe was fouling so - out with the angle grinder and the welder
Forgive my bird poo welds .... they will get a clean up later. The positioning on the engine cross member hasn't changed but the angles have.
Also test fitted the shortened Diff that I got back on Thursday.
the last photo is the distance between the diff (where I have it at the moment) and the back of the standard 180SX S13 g'box ...the shifter comes out directly between the (driver/passenger) front seat mounts

So the Auto transmission tunnel mounts almost line up with the S13 Manual Gearbox ... just made up this crossmember to fit it up

Bling alert!

Courtesy of Supafatto (many thanks and great job!) these bad boys are destined for the new build
I have the H74 ball joints ... just sorting out the bearings.

One thing bugging me is the intake plenum .... making sure it misses the MADDAT clutch reserve ... hmmmm

Nice! Gotta love a Supafatto coil over setup.

As for intake, unlike the CA18, there are some cheapish aftermarket option like Greddy copies that
may give you more clearance.
Otherwise, if you want even more bling and 2.5k less in your bank account check out the Plazmaman ones.

More mocking up before the engine and tranny come back out and prep/paint
need to cut a bit out of the front valence panel to bring the intercooler forward as much as possible without showing it too much
Also ... the MADDAT clutch master fits and just misses the intake manifold ... whew - didn't really want to spend another grand on an intake plenum
