Does anyone know how many A series engines were produced?

For example the Renault C series was also an OHV engine
competitor to the Datsun A series ranging from 956cc-1770cc.

It had wet sleeved iron block with non X-flow and also X-flow heads
the x-flow hemi styled heads could fit 45mm inlet valves!

27,277,306 engines were manufactured in 42 years, a record in Europe
Yet many more produced in South America and other countries even till
this day many parts are still cast for them.

I've long wondered this too. Years ago I put "millions" in the encyclopedia

Here's proof: Cumulative production reached 5.5 million by late 1977 according to Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association survey

Of that, a few Sunnys had L-series engines, but the vast majority had the A-series. This was likely offset by all the Cherrys and Pulsars with A-series engines, let alone the few Stanza base trim models that had an A14

found another million+ in the next 3 years from 1977

The 1981 B310 brochure says:Quote:
The famed Nissan four-cylinder overhead-valve engine has powered almost seven million cars in virtually every land on earth.

The Renault C engine was also an overhead valve, aluminum-head four cylinder. Starting in 1962, so it had three or four year head start on the Datsun A-series engine. Same displacements too (956 to 1565 cc)

Renault made 27m of that C engine which is crazy, I guess A series would be close
then Toyota had their version too the K series but like Renault they made other
pushrod engines to replace their first ones. Renault improved theirs for the
Alpine by going to alloy, still wet sleeves that could be taken to 2ltrs and
camshaft sits just below the head so really short pushrods if not the shortest
ever for an ohv engine. Toyota made the hemi xflow T series and the R series
which both were later upgraded to twin cam heads with the T series still running
its ohv camshaft as a zombie cam like the early ford cosworth engines did.
