Putting the tachometer in the console isn't optimal. To see it you'd have to take your eyes off the road for longer than a dash-mounted tacho

The factory tachometer was not designed to bolt to the console. But it will fit if you make a simple bracket to hold it in place. Perhaps you could even use plumber's tape

Be careful when buying a used tachometer. This 10k tacho has the main power wire missing. Wires cut. bottom tab cut. All minor, but the power stud is missing too. Maybe can't be fixed

This 1000rpm tacho was for sale last month starting bid $1000 but i don't think it sold?
https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f1203024367

It has differences from all the others:

* No tell-tale pointer
* Does not say KANTOSEIKI TOKYO below x 1000rpm
* legend (x 1000rpm) is below the pointer instead of SE to the pointer

It also has tape where the dash bracket would normally be

Datsun 1200 GX came with 6800 rpm redline. The other tacho has a redline that starts at 6400 rpm

the yellow line indicates you have revved beyond peak HP
Open in new window

The redline is higher than a non-GX engine as valve float doesn't occur until after 6800. This is because of the dual valve springs

the 1972 JDM facelift brought a new font typeface to the meters, new taper-cone anti-glare gauge covers ...
...and new bold color bands for the yellow zone and red zone of the tachometer

The factory Datsun 1200 tachometer has an adjustment screw. A simple turn of the screw will raise or lower the indicated RPM. At the factory this was adjusted for a correct reading at a certaom rpm. However, as components age (in particular the capacitors) the reading may need adjustment.

Take a reading using a dedicated (accurate) Dwell-Tachometer, and if your tachometer is off, adjust it to match.

TURN
* clockwise: to lower RPM
* anti-clockwise: raise RPM

Try turning the screw 1/8 turn, and see if the new reading is what you want. You can compare the reading by connecting a dwell/tach meter to the engine, then adjust the tachometer to read the same.

Yellow Arrow points to the adjustment screw on the back of the case

The tachometer for the Datsun 620 truck looks identical to the 1972 B110 facelift tacho with these differences:

* 7000 rpm redline
* Shorter brace tab and no top tab
* 1-wire signal with mini-harness

Open in new window

Unlike the B110 unit, it connects to the coil negative terminal like aftermarket tachometers. So if installing in a 1200 a new wire needs to be run out from the dash to the engine compartment.

It will accept the flat 1200 cover

In my 1200 ute, i left the facelift cover on for the anti-glare properties. The red and yellow colors matched my Momo Commander steering wheel

The Nismo 10000rpm tacho has a tab like the standard B110 tachometers:

Is the tab for earthing or for bracing?

This one has a straight tab which appears to be in the same place:
