I went to nowra for a holiday the other day n our friends we were staying at had to pick up their car at the mechanics nearby. I took a ride and to my amazment their was the best totally original datto ute sitting there. I asked who owned it and the guy that owned the mechanics did. I asked if he had disk brakes and must have made a remark about them being standard. BOY did i get told. "The datsun NEVER came out with disk brakes what r u talking about" IS this true? did datsun 1200 utes actually come out with standard disk brakes and when. I have a 1980 model and mine r drum but ive been told disks came out in 79.

I don't know for sure, but I thought the later model Utes had Discs on the front.

I think the NEVER statement might be wrong.

I think they may have been an option but don't quote me ,But I do know of some 80's models had drums on the front .There is one at the wreckers near me ( an 85 ) with drums on the front, and I sold a set of mags to a guy with a late 80's ute that still ran drums also .

I'm pretty sure we didn't get disk brakes here until '89 along with catalytic converters and a couple other minor things. That's not to say you didn't get disk brakes there, but I don't think they were available here till then.

I recently sold my 73 ute which had discs up front. Ute was standard and although I only had it for 4 years I'm pretty sure they were an original fitment. I recall the workshop manual also refers to front discs.

Generally speaking

- Standard trim level 1200s came with drum brakes
- Deluxe came with drum brakes
- GL and GX trims came with disc brakes

USA is an exception, where ONLY discs were used.

It appears that in most countries B110s and B120s both -- if you got the Standard trim (dogdish hubcaps, rectangular speedometer, etc) -- the front drums also came with it.

For more info on Trim Levels, see Datsun 1200 (B110) Body Styles.

Nope, not only US,

Here in South Africa, even the 1974 datsun1200 delux, the GX's sedans came with front disc brakes. The utes started disc brake setup from 78.
