went to fill up the ute last night... only to find that my local servo's dont have LRP (lead replacement) anymore...

i think its being phased out altogether..

should we be running any additives to unleaded in our A series engines?

since lrp has gone out ive been using premium. premium has around the same lead as lrp does soo premium is good and unleaded is lower lead and it will probally stuff ur valves up after a while

LRP is slowly on the way out. Country Victoria has bugger all servos left that sell it. I am running Premium Unleaded (either Shell or BP which is supposed to be the best), in my A15. Might cost more at the pump but it is better for your engine. Excellent performane and brillant fuel ecomomy. I recently done a trip from Adelaide to Melbourne. Average fuel consumption was 8.8 L / 100km. Not bad for Twin Su carbies either!! Don't waste your time with the normal unleaded.

An A series can run all day every day forever on standard unleaded. You will only notice a perfromance enhancement on high performance engines which run advanced timing of around 20 degrees using premium unleaded. Dont waste your money paying an extra 10 cents per litre or with lead substitutes in them. the A series dont need the upper cylinder lubrication like many inferior engines have to.

i have to slightly dissagree with you there converted, you can run it on the regular unleaded with no troubles but i have found running only BP ultimate 98 my engine runs better and runs cleaner and has more power, it is also noticable in the engine oil i use and with my spark plugs, i check my plugs and they are exactly how they should be and my engine oil only goes a golden syrup colout instead of black.

2 weekends ago i used caltex Vortex gold or whatever it is, my oil is now black and so are my plugs i got crap fuel econemy and my engine cracked the ####s and ran like a vc commodore with diesel (or hell like a vc commodore )

so i would give BP a shameless free plug and say i love ultimate 98.

and before you ask whether it was a bad batch of fuel i was back in the area over a week later and gave it another shot just to be sure it wasn't a bad batch.

sorry for the long post.

Mobil Synergy is the best of the premiums without a doubt in my mind

i tried the BP and my engine really ran poorly as soon as i filled up with mobil again it was fine

with shell optimax i know its a case of getting good and bad batches so i stay away from that as much as possible

and caltex from what have seen is all 95 octane instead of 98 like the others are, or do some caltex have 98 now?

Hmm... I've been running unleaded in the A15 lately and noticed a slightly poorer economy, but little performance change.

It's getting low so I might stick some PULP in it this week...

It's 'cheap' at the moment - our local servo has it for 99.6c/ltr
