g'day all

im probly gonna regret asking this, but has anyone ever looked into fitting the rear end out of a suzuki sierra 4wd into the 1200??

the reason i ask, is that they are narrow (although i'm not exactly sure how narrow), leaf sprung, infinite ratios, lsd's are readily available, cheap as chips, and fairly strong.

also, you can get lockers for them (arb etc).

id like to know all you good peoples thoughts on this conversion, as it saves chasing down an lsd for a h165 or 190 (or welding one up). it may be an easy/cheaper way out of the whole diff drama.

thanks

stu

yep seen that ute on the road when I was trailering my coupe to goulburn for testing. It was yellow and had a really high ride and seemed to handle the round-about qiute well at speed.

As for the suzuki rear does it have disc brakes? and what ratios with LSD's are we talking about. How much are the LSD's to purchase????
so many questions so little answers....

bigballs offroad (no it's not rude)

Have a peak they have a whole selection on Suzuki. Airlockers are around 1300 beans and from previous internet research I think the next upgrade for the diff is the hilux effort which increases track by about 4 inches (I think). No I know folks here have done the hilux thing so do the math and figure if the Suzi diff is ballpart to fitting.(and obviously they're 5 stud).

You may find however that at around 120 kmh the diff will start shaking... cause it's scared

heh heh, i spose its true, ive never seen a sierra going over 120kph; )

as for ratios, there are loads of ring and pinion sets for them, as in the states they are used as the poor mans entry into the rockcrawling scene, being such light and capable little jiggers. however, rockcrawlers tend to use 5.0 ratios and up. which is good for rallying.

anyhoo, gots to make myself all dirty and look up suzuki forums (shudder)

Sierra rear diffs are not discs lockers and air lockers are readily avalible for these.
Sierra front diffs in the later models have discs but lockers are not avalible athough some places custom make them.

EDIT: sorry i stand corrected you can by ARB air lockers for the newer 84-96 model front diffs.
