Yes it can be done and it would have been best to buy a new kit from Dick Smiths as it has every thing you need to make it fit

Go to the photo album and submit the picture. It has to be under 100kb's.

The hardest parts of central locking in a 1200, is finding grommets and rubber section that lasts long enough to protect the wires between the pillars and doors.

Drilling holes in the doors/pillars takes the time. It's a 2 or 3 day job.

Cheers.

My 1200 sedan has central locking but it was in the car when i got it.

Central locking in a 1200 (or most aftermarket installs), means the actuators are normally placed in the way of rainwater. Always try and shield the actuators from rain when installing them in the doors.

The back ones, probably have rusted up motors from water damage. The cheaper units are much less waterproof. But I think you'll find most manufacturers use the cheap ones these days.

New car locks operate easily and old cars tend to have a not so smooth operation even when cleaned and greased. In the past I have had to install 2 actuators on each lock in some vehicles so they operate the locks properly.
So depending on your locks operation and the strength of your actuators - keep this in mind.

ive gone through a few (central locking systems/dramas) and have found the Mongoose brand ones to be much better than others. The Mongoose kit (4 actuators 2 master 2 slave + control unit, loom) costs $40 to a dealer. Theyre in Hornsby.
Theyre very water proof (good tight grommets) and more heavy duty in feel that others ive looked at. My door lock mechanisms were very stiff but a lil WD40 (shouldve used machine oil) did the trick and havnt needed any attention since.
The alarm i use (for keyless entry addition) is some cheapo which wired up very easily to the mongoose locks. Works everytime, has 4 buttons on the remote thingy! (so i can find car if i lose in parking lot etc eheh) it also allows me to open the boot with the remote
Also you can put an actuator in the coupe boot very easily so u can open it at the flick of a button (havnt examined other 1200's to know if you can put in your sedan/wagon) boot lock kit is from jaycar, around $40. Just angle the heavy magnet actuator underneath the coupe boot lid on the inside (behind the boot trim) and fasten so it pulls the latch downwards. I ran CAT5 (4 x single pairs of twister copper) cable from the cabin switch to the back of the car, using a single pair to supply the actuator 12v. The other 3 pairs i used to power a boot light and also added a micro-switch to turn on the boot light, which is part of the cabin-light/alarm circuit. I also put in a touch switch to detect when the bonnet is open. All in all i have wires everywhere, I have been meaning to clean it up! (make a nice new loom). from experience dont put the control unit for your central locking inside the kick panel (front speaker panel) as it will get soaked when the dat gets wet.

dattodude: i put a few wraps of gaffatape on the cables where they pass through the door holes and mine havnt taken any more damage. You could also put lil grommets in the door holes to protect the wire passing through it.
