Hello Everyone,
I've been lurking around the 1200 club since it was on Yahoo and have just today joined so that I could share my good fortune (I think) with other Datsun fanatics. I have been working since last Novemebr on a '72 coupe that was neglected for many years and even though it spent its whole life in an arid climate (New Mexico, USA) it turned out to be quite the rust bucket. It's now ready for paint and all the cancer is gone. I'd been searching far and wide for a parts car with no luck until I found the guy on Ebay that was parting out a '72 sedan not far from where I live. I won an auction for a spare fender and ended up buying the rest of the car, mostly for the 4 speed as mine is an auto. On the way over to pick up the sedan I discovered a '71 sedan rotting away in someones front yard. Well $30 US later I had the title in hand and was on my way to rent a car dolly. So now I have three (only the coupe has an engine, the '72 sedan is going to be picked over and the '71 is gonna be a race car), what luck. Anyway to make a long post a little shorter I will have the '72 sedans shell available to anyone who wants it very cheaply. No fenders, doors, drive train, suspension or hood and the left front inner panels needs some welding done but the rest is pretty straight and might make a good basis for a race car. If anyone in the SW US is interested drop me a line at maberna@sandia.gov. If anyone else is in the Albuquerque area drop me a line also. Thanks and keep all the great info coming it has really helped a lot. I'll try making these posts a little shorter in the future.

Mike

G'Day Mike welcome aboard.

Sounds like you have done exremely well with your findings. Good luck with your cars, I look forward to seeing some pics of the car pre-paint and after its finished. Any idea on what colour you are going to paint it?

Your right about the amount of info comes from the people on this site, its so great to have people who understand and know their Datto 1200 inside out. They have helped me many a time.

Simon

P.S. The longer the post when describing a problem or something you need help on the better I say.

Mr nismo4 hit it right on the money. This site is the coolest. Every new member is another source of info and parts...lol. Seriously, congrats on the find, and welcome aboard Mike.

just found the site yesterday, and it looks pretty interesting so I thought I'd sign up and say g'day.

I've got a 1200 coupe that I've been using in hillclimbs, sprints, autocrosses, touring road events etc for a couple of years now. It's got a fairly hot L18, stanza 5spd, and locked 4.3 diff. 76 cam, mildly ported SSS head with alot of combustion chamber work, 10.3 CR, Datrally manifold and twin 40 Dellortos (36chokes), lightened flywheel and sports 2000 clutch.

I've got the L18 out for a freshen up at the moment, in preparation for the Qld Super Sprint Series (QSSS) final coming up. Also adding a vernier cam gear and 45 Webers (40chokes).

Last round of QSSS Series A was this weekend just gone (Aug 3 & 4), and there were 3 other coupes competing. Great to see so many in the one place, and they had us all in the same group on the track - fantastic fun. Some of those little A14's were pretty damn quick too. Good to see a few people on here compete in their 1200's as well.

sorry for another long post, I'll see you around. I'm gonna go read some more of those old threads...

Welcome to the club. Enjoyed reading your post and great to hear of someone else with a 1200 race car. There are 3 coupe regulars in the NSW State Champs here and hopefully a couple of more are on their way. Your mods sound impressive and I was wondering if you finished in front of or behind the A14's at your recent outing?

thanks teretonga. The fastest of the A14 coupes out there was dual entered by Malcolm and Craig Allen (father and son). I was about the same lap times as Mal give or take a tenth, but young Craig had my measure by almost a second a lap. Morgan Park is a very tight twisty track about 980m long and very short straights. So we had some interesting dices, with them leaving me behind under brakes and corner entry, and me catching them out of the corners and along the short straights. It's a very impressive little car they've got, and is faster than alot of much larger capacity cars. To give you an idea, I am running second in my class (Imp Prod 1601-3500cc!!) to a bridge ported 13B RX-7 -don't ask! I'll have to get some photos of them at the final.
