hey guys just wondering if anyone is using water injection? im going to buy the yealla terra w/i kit, they say u dont use intercoolers and w/i i dunno why but i think itll be really good, all the benefits of a really cold intake and a steam cleaned engine. only problem i have is when i let off and my blow off valve opens will it vent water out, surely if the bov is before the point that the water is injected it isnt going to travel against boost and come out ....

The water isn't hosed in there with a garden hose. The actual amount will be quite small, however, if there is water vapour in the air from the BOV, it should evaporate quickly in a hot engine bay.

Better yet, you could run a return line from the BOV to the intake side of the turbo. Waste not want not & it should reduce that bloody awfull noise that those things make when you hit the clutch

You could just purge it out the bonnet, apparently it goes faster if you don't squirt it into the engine

Kegs,

You can certainly run an intercooler AND a water injection system at the same time, although, testing has shown that if your running up to 15psi, you can get away with not running an intercooler and running water injection only.

In regards to the blow off valve question, depending on how the sytem is designed and installed, you shouldn't have any problems. The water injection should only be operating when the engine is making boost - ideally somewhere around 5-7psi and above (depending on the engine). Therefore, when you get off the throttle the boost will drop and the blow off valve will open - but the water injection should have stopped also.

I am not 100% sure on the Yella Terra system, but I can certainly tell you that the Boost Cooler system would have no problem.

Out of interest - how much is the Yella Terra System, always good to know what I am up against

P.S. I have just installed the water injection system on my Sunny.....we hope to do some back to back testing on the dyno in the near future. I will report back with the results once we have the testing finished.

Mark.

Mark,

I think i'm being converted. Ive seen the quality of your kit and i have to say, it's a lot better than the agricultural kits previous that put me off.

your pricing seems high at first, but then i costed an intercooler with a decent size core, fittings, clamps, hoses and labour and all of a sudden your kit comes out on top.

considering i personally have very minimal room for an intercooler, and plumbing for twins is difficult at best with an intercooler (sorry, after cooler) your kit is growing on me very, very fast.

datman55 the kit is 290 bucks, it is a new design that doesnt need a pump or anything like that so is run off the boost the engine is making, so CANT be use on a n/a engine. i am very interested as i cannot see any downsides of the w/i setup, it runs itself with a hobbs switch, so nothing complicated that can stuff up, i think for a low boost setup below say 15 psi it is ideal. and for a datto its excellent as it takes almost no space like an intercooler plus piping would. ps would you be able to show me "your" setup as u call it. and maybe give us all some details. thanks

yeah ive wondered about that too, but considering the heat that a turbo's exhaust housing makes surely the turbine inside is so ot that it would almost completely get rid of the water. wouldonly rust if the water is left to sit for time wouldnt it?

it the water is being pushed in only via boost into the compressor inlet with a hobbs switch to open/close the soleniod - you won't have much atomisation there
