Hi all

I was busily disassembling my manifolds today, when I came across the evil bolt.

It's a 14mm head, but a bit rounded so the socket just slips off.

How do I possibly get it out, with drilling it out.

(click on the pic and it will get bigger)

Firstly plenty of penetrating oil. give it a couple of sharp hits directly on the head then try with a 6 sided 14mm socket. If it still doesn't work, then you could try hammering a slightly smaller socket on or use vice grips. Then if that doesn't work either cut the head off the bolt or drill it out. But most important of all keep your cool and work through the process.

Well I'm running with the first step so far, doused the bolt in penetrating oil - will let it soak overnight....then I'll take your advice and belt the bolt tommorow.

Need to get some el cheapo sockets by the sound of it to belt a smaller one onto the bolt....rather not destroy the Kincrome ones.

Thanks for the advice

don't get a too cheap socket as only a half decent one will give you enough drive, a good socket can normally handle a bit of work/abuse, plus the kincrome one should be under warranty if it breaks

True, trur....but would it count as abuse?

If required I'll belt the 13mm socket onto the 14mm nut....

What penetrating spray do you recommend by the way, I'm just using the 'Bunnings special' - only worth a few buck, pictured in the link below.

Piccy of penetrant

it's only abuse if you tell them what you did, but it should be ok. as for penetrating oil I use "Wurth Rost-off", "CRC 5.56", or "WD40" I couldn't tell you whether you are just paying for the name or not, but any oil is better than none.

Use INOX, its industrial grade lubricant. Its great, got my crank pulley nut off in a jiffy with an overnight soaking.

I was gonna say vice grips.
If you get really desperate you could weld some thing on to use as leverage?

Are the others undone? This one is probably corroded in tight!

Simply twist the manifolds and it will either move or break.
