battery light again
Guest_
replaced the regulator for the 3rd time now and the neweish one (sourced from 1200rc) is a good one.
The battery light flickering has now moved to idle (moved from 4000rpm plus).
it flickers only at idle so im thinking my idle at 700rpm is too low as if i idle at 900-1000rpm its fine, or something else.
The headlights do dim at idle but at 900-1000rpm they brighten up.

Any ideas people? Im thinking to just raise the idle speed.

Looks like the ute coming to the cruise again.

The regulator only regulates voltage, it won't tell the alternator "when" to work. If the voltages never goes over 14.5 volts, the regulator is fine.

It sounds like the brushes in the alternator may be worn down to the limit. Often it flickers at idle. Take the alternator off and inspect. New brushes just cost a few dollars.

only reason i worried is that it flickered during revs once and also the lights go dim... being frugal financially, i dont want to join racv again for this car....

Yes, don't worry, just check the brushes. It's likely that's the problem. It will slowly get worse, but is not likely to strand you suddenly.

hi unfamilia ive also had issues with my battery light. the light is clearly ON when car has ignition but is not started.. once driving the light is mainly off. it never seems to go completely off, no matter what - i can see the light still slightly lit. sometimes at idle it pulses, usually when its cold and idling low. ive given up looking at it and just look at my little 30$ voltometer that tells me the exact voltage regardless of what the mysterious light is feeling like. sorta like this one.. the one i use is the ice alert one from jaycar.. i couldnt find the right pic anyway ->Open in new window
