Bought my car with a freshly rebuilt A-15 with a 'mild' cam & polished head which had not yet been run. The bloke had lost the details of the rebuild, and the engine builder has records, but there 'stored' up the back of the mezanine in the workshop & he's reluctant to try & find them- fair enough.

So is there any way of working out the camshaft specs without taking the engine apart

I was thinking along the lines of getting a plastic protractor, attaching it to the flywheel and with the rocker cover off, measuring duration & lift. Anyone tried this or something similar??

The engine is a hairy goat at idle, but no inlet leaks so I'm thinking that 'mild' might not be an accurate description of the cam. Trying to decide if I want to go to the effort of twin40's or twin SU's or just run a 32/36.

Any assistance appreciated

If you get hold of a degree wheel and adial gauge attatch it to the flywheel you should be able to get a good indication of lift etc...GREG
PS got your PM.

Cheers Greg. So the degree wheel goes on the flywheel and the dial guage is used for the valve lift?

Why are yo going from the back? better precision on the than trying to use the crank pulley? I was thinking of using the crank pulley so that I am watching and turning at the same time, rather than crawling under the car every 20 seconds.

I have a degree wheel that has been glued to a A series crnk pulley. It'll be a bit trickyer with the head on. When the head is off, you can stick a magnetic base to the block dck to hold the DTI.
