Hi Guys, I have a standard five speed for sale.
It is a smooth case type 60 box, I have had it fully reconditioned this includes all new bearings, seals and all gear mating surfaces have been checked for any problems. ( this alone cost 600 bucks).
What do you blokes reckon it is worth.
I also have a fully rebuilt starter for a 1200 that I don't need again make me an offer.
Ade

Hi Tommy, thanks for your input,I was thinking about a grand for the box but wanted an idea from someone else.
With the starter it has all new brushes, bearings and I think some new internal bits does 175 bucks sound reasonable ?
cheers Ade

Hey look what i'm saying is nothing personal just basic commen sence. $1000 for a smooth case 60 series gearbox is a little over the top, why would anybody invest $1000 for a 60 series with no proven reliability, no strength to them and totally unreliable (fact based on i've went through 5 off them in as many years in the 80's) For $1000 you could buy the Best gearbox for any a-series of Feral (being the 63 series) with proven reliability, proven strength (I have raced one for the past two years with a 140hp at the flywheel) and it is as good as the day that i first installed it. My own personal comment is that The price for these 5-speed gearbox's is really over the top.

Hi Lemonhead, I agree in what you are saying to a point.
I ran a dogleg box back in the 80's and I can remember that it cost me 300 bucks and at that time every importer had them as well as GX engines but it is now nearly twenty years later and as things get harder to find the price go's up.
I was in the car industry for nearly twenty years and the guy who did the gearbox was indeed one of the best that I had ever dealt with,he is an auto engineer as opposed to a Kmart Auto type parts fitter.
In my post I asked for input and I am glad recieve any both positive and negative.
cheers Ade

theres too sides to the argument. i mean Ade has spent $600 and how ever much it took him to aquire it. so he is probaly trying to make $200 or so, or maybe he is making less. it has had a rebuild and been checked so im sure it will take a mild aseries easily. i guess he could sell it for what it cost him or less but i guess not much point in selling it then. (mine is nearly dead but hanging in there it has plenty of kms but) think Ade is just testing the market.

yes there are other options, but the 60series are rare boxes and nice to drive. there only gonna get rarer. this box requires no mods like the 63a and is not as heavy. a celcia option box is $1500.

So Ade box is probaly the cheapest option 5speed box, if you looking for a pretty much perfect condition box (brand new) for a stock to mild aseries. just imagine the price of a absoulty brand new one from NISSAN.... would most likely make $1000 look very cheap. dont forget there is always room for negoiations in most deals

im proably gonna have to fork out $$$$ for mine to get fixed

edit: posted before i saw ADE's reply

Yes ade those were the days!! I remember in 1983 buying my first GX 1200 motor for my first rally car from Queensland engine supplies on Kingsford Smith Drive for $150 and my first 5-speed(1:1 fifth) for $125, back in those you could choose from overdrive units or 1:1 fifths hence going through so many of them. I still have the carby's of that original 1200 sitting in the garage.

B120dat, I just noticed your from Townsville, great place, lived there from '93 to '94, did a few FNQ rallies. You'd have to know Ian O,Speedy, Lee W and some of those people maybe?
