The April 1971 edition of Wheels magazine carried a road test of the Datsun 1200 sedan manual sedan. The average of all 1/4 mile runs was 21.55 sec's with a best time of 21.5 seconds, & this was in a 690Kg car driven by a bunch of old farts.
They didn't break it either.

Back the rpm down to 3000 and you should get off the line better and also shift HARD!!!!!

Back in the early days as a really poor uni student, I found that a good portmatch could pick up almost a second on a stock A12 depending on how bad it was to start with. . . And then you can remove the choke. . . and then set the stock carb up as a mechanical secondary. . . and then a head de-dagging, I wouldn't call it a port job. . . Take the aircleaner off. . . Wind a bit of advance into the timing. . . cooler thermostat. . . Cut the "hot box" off the exhaust manifold and plated over. . .Then you can stop the alternator charging. . . Low profile tires to lower the final drive ratio. . . The 'er aerodynamic aids could be amusing. Remove mirrors, windscreen wipers. . .

A heap of low $ mods, some of them even worked!

The motorvation? I had lashed out on a 2nd hand G-tech!

I did some runs back in march in my ute, stock a12,4 speed with all bits still attached.
15 inch wheels with 195/50's...

1: 20.490 @99.00 kph, reac: 0.772, sixty: 2.705

2: 20.859 @100.57 kph, reac: 1.194, sixty: 2.796

3: 21.022 @98.79 kph, reac: 1.050, sixty: 2.794

I did a fourth run but lost the time slip.....As you can see I was in no hurry to leave the line and I didn't rev it out much past 5000 rpm's.
The purpose of the exercise was to get some "on board" vision for the dragways new advert...
