Well my mate bought a little suzuki sierra and began talking about bolting the head from the twin cam swift gti onto it.

From my research, the GTI and sierra bottom ends are very similar, but the sierra one is stronger and heavier.
The GTI head is dohc and the sierra is sohc.
The GTI engine also seems to bolt to the sierra gearbox.

I happen to have a swift gti engine in bits lying around, so I think a little experimentation is required.

The gti engine itself is light, so perfect for the kb10, and produces 100hp stock.

Has anyone played around with this concept before?

I convinced the new owner of my old 1000 2 door sedan to go the g16 b with suzuki sierra box adapted. This is almost 8 years ago and since then Ive search far and wide and ended up with my original decision the same engine but different box.
The suzi boxes ratios are useless with the long stroke 1.6 and the twin cam doesnt flow any better. Although the extra cam lets you control the exhaust side better straight off, the sohc 16v version has bigger valves from starters, bigger better angled ports and more meat around ports. Cams are available from many places as it is a preferred head for speedway racers. The twin cam is a waste of time unless you stay with the original bottom end which is better than the normal 1.3 engine not the other way around.
over 1.4litres the head is suffocating.
Trust me go straight to the 1.6 sohc 16v its even narrow enough for good exhaust and inlet compared to the twin cam and also weighs less all up.
Also if you want to go over 400hp the honda d16 forged crank and girdle fits with line boring and custom front pulley and sump. then you can use off the shelf Honda d16 parts (eg rods, bearings and some pistons) which are cheaper and the Honda d16 a sand cast alloy heavy engine has lost preference to the later B16 series.
There are 3 hybrid suzuki/honda conversions around that I know of 2 are boosted one is NA and rev sky high even with 90mm stroke. 2 are in beautiful kiwi land.
The g series is an oldie but a lightweight high potential goodie and yet more accessible than nissan small alloy engines.

D do you mean use the serria box but with different ratios?

How easily does the 16b match that gearbox in terms of the bell-housing lining up?

Thanks!

That was my smurf blue one years ago. A shame he didnt finish it as its all installed just needs fuel, exhaust, radiator and ignition.

The sierra box can have the first two ratios changed but you still have a weak box. Better go a mazda, toyota or a bmw Getrag 262 or 265 or even a mitsubishi D50 (cable setup but unitary bellhousing needs slicing and welding g16 vitara front part of bell.
