Hi guys
Just pulled the rear end out of the ute to get the topgear diff centre rebuilt and change the noisy crown wheel and pinion in readiness for this season. I was going to baffle the axle tubes cause we reckoned oil was moving down the tubes during hard cornering and leaving the centre dry. When we opened it up we found it already has a baffle.
Is the original baffle big enough or do we extend it further?
What do other guys do that are competing or am I being a bit paranoid ?
Thanks
Bob

would probably be a good idea to have a full baffle rather than just a half baffle like they have, and probably good to make it tighter on the axle as i cant imagine the stock baffle would be too close

coz the bad thing with the half baffle is that if oil does manage to get over it its kinda trapped there as it wont be coming back too fast as its only got a small hole to come back threw

Good point with the oil coming back slowly through that little hole

For the smallish amount of effort required to knock up some decent baffles...i'd do it,especially with a top gear slippery.
I've always used them circuit racing but hav'nt bothered doing super sprints.

I guess this sounds like an each way bet,but think of the cost of another diff to be made.

Happy new year by the way Bob
Cheers

I have my H190 Baffled, Nismo made a baffle to fit the H190, but I can't find an images.

Basically, it is a piece of metal which sits across the axle tube opening, with a hole for the axle. In the hole for the axle you weld in a piece of tube which extends in towards the diff centre, this stops oil going up the plate and through the hole as easily. By adding some holes either side and at the base, it allows any oil in the axle tubes the ability to drain back.

Also, I have been told to increase the oil level by welding up the standard fill hole and moving up by the width of the standard hole (ie. the bottom of the new hole in line with the top of the original hole. I cheated on this one, and got a 90 degree speedflow fitting, and screwed it into the filler hole (pointing up)..... this allowed me to fill the diff with extra oil.

I don't have a pic of the diff baffles unfortunately, but if you would like a btter explanation PM your Phone number and I will give you a call.

Mark

Now we are getting somewhere.
We could flare the axle hole inwards and this would help contain the oil and raising the filler hole with a 90 degree bend is so simple it is almost ingenious.
