hi Guys anyone koe the difference between these and the standard a12 engine .M2 is stamped on left front hand side of block

Unknown. There are two basic A12 blocks:
*1971-1973 - distributor under spark plug #1
*1974-1994 - distributor under spark plug #3

In original untouched form that number indicates an early A12 block with a light weight crank, the ones all the ministock boys look for .

so thats for real, M2 is the light weight crank one...i thought all A12s had that, maybe i should go pull some sumps off and see what sorta cranks ive got lying around

stirlingmac you are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to modifying datsuns and knowing of those rare goodies that most of us have no idea about
one day id like to travel to nz just to go and try find some of those racing goodies that seem to have just been left around
and to perhaps learn from some knowledgeable people that race/modify datsuns
