lethal john how are u planning to change gears? I would go for F1 style paddle shift or centre console mounted tippy using 2 central locking servos to hit the motobike foot shifter up and down, clutch setup easy enough just the bike clutch cable straight to the clutch pedal.

it would be an absolute hoot to drive.

the little mini-V8-stupidcar racers use a bike engine coupled to a RWD transmission - i'm dead certain it can be done.

1000coupe - yea mate im not real sure about the shifter setup cos in the modlites everything is so close together so we just use a mechanical style setup, i heard drag bike guys use some sort of special setup not sure tho, the central locking servo's is a good idea. i think maybe a mechanical setup would be the better option just so you can feel it a bit better if you know what i mean, but im not real sure how you'd go about it. they're definately awesome to drive my boss's old car used to wheel stand haha had a zx12 in it

rallytwit - those are nice cars by the looks of it, if you want reverse have you thought of attaching a starter motor to the tailshaft to be able to reverse? the only bad thing i've experienced with yamaha's is the clutch wears out quickly, i've heard r1's n gixxr's are the yanks favourite. do you know someone who imports all that sorta stuff? just askin cos if you dont we've got a container comin over soon if you wanna throw somethen in

pro240c - dunno about that one i thought they just run tailshafts

Yeah im with ROConnor, im also building a mini and all the mini boys are all trying to get some sort of motorbike engined mini up and running... Now in the UK they are pumping them out, but yeah why go a small motorbike engine? Put something decent in with plenty of power and torque and it has surely got to be better than a bike engine. As said they only push around the 250kg matk and dont have much of a restriction behind them....

Great idea. Couple of things to bear in mind:
Motorbike engines rotate the opposite way to car engines (except Hondas) so you have to deal with the Differential or you'll have 6 reverses.
The racecars I've seen with bike engines in NZ have all been LHD (not an issue for USA of course) as in order to get the gearbox & driveshaft in the centre of the car, the engine needs to sit to the right.
