Doesn't sound familar.
The doors are sooo light I doubt if fibreglass would be an improvement

But they wouldn't rust...

Carbon Fiber would be better. I hear they are going to outlow carbon so better buy 'em now.

something about carbon and the environment...?

A lot of doors can be reskinned, a skilled bodyman can do it. But if the frame is rusted it is a bigger problem.

Really think the stock doors are that light? I've been restoring some doors lately so I've been lugging them around the yard, and they don't seem that light to me... I'm thinking about glass doors for a racecar.

The standard coupe doors are surprisingly heavy. I cannot remember their weight off hand but when I was building my race coupe I used gutted alloy skinned doors and the weight saving there and with dash removal almost equalled my cage weight.

I would alloy skin and gut (no glass, winder mechanism or door mechanism, minimalise the inside metal panel and rely on your cage for intrusion protection) a pair of your coupe doors instead of using fibre glass.

Heavy is a relative term. They are lighter than any other car door I've ever worked with.

Certainly aluminum will be lighter than steel.
