Hey guys Im thinking of using A14 pistons in my A15, would removing 2.5mm from the A14 piston render it fragile and weak? there would be about 3.5 left from the top ring to the top of the crown?

cos they could burn realy easy thats why they made them so thick so that they dont get too hot and get holes blown in them

In my experience, its not so much an issue of burning holes through the top but rather there is significant material removed off the top so that the cross sectional area between the top ring land and the piston crown is small enough to increase the chances off failure. However it will work, but for how long is the question.

cheers
benny

Would be interesting to hear how this works out. It sounds plausible.

How much meat is there to take off?

a14 pistons have a larger distance from the gudgeon pin to the crown, therefor if u use an a14 piston in an a15, it protrudes out the top of the block. machine 2.5mm off the top of the piston and u end up with pretty much a flat top piston. However the top ring is close to the crown. i machined down an old piston to show what i am talking bout.
