Carby flooding. |

One of my Dellorto DHLA 40 carbies keeps flooding, just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem. The first time it happened I thought it was grit in the fuel, cleaned it out and it worked well, two days later ( after not starting the car ) it was flooding again. I reset the float and it seemed fine again, then a couple of days later its flooding again! I checked the needle of course but noticed black marks on the inside of the fuel bowl, looks to me like the float is scraping/sticking on the inside of the fuel bowl. The fuel is flooding the carby and also seeping out over the outside of the carby a bit. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

DHLA carbs are really sensitive in regards to fuel level. Check your fuel pressure, no more than 4 psi. Check the needle and seat, any wear fit new ones. Fuel pressure is 3psi. Needle and seat look good. I will double check float level, thanks for the link I'll check it out.

Pretty sure the float is hitting/jamming on the side of the chamber, any other ideas people?

could it be too much flow but the right pressure ?? if the pressure is the same then if you increase the flow i am guessing that it will flood

could you run a bigger line from the pump to the carbys ,maybe that would help if it has something to do with flow ??

If the float is sticking that will definately cause flooding, can you tweak the float to clear? The alloy is pretty pliable usually.

pressure building in tank over couple of days?????? raising above 3-4 psi? crack fuel cap and see if still dose

If everything measures to spec them maybe the float is loose on the pivot pin, wobbling around the chamber and snagging on the float chamber walls. Fix is to carefully remove pin and float and rework the section of the float that wraps around the pin so it is a tighter clearance fit on the pin. Then reassemble.
BEWARE - the float pin need to be tapped out with a very small pin punch while carefully supporting the one leg that clamps the pin. The alloy legs are mega fragile. Don't ask how I know.
