or you can spend a few hundred & get a decent retro fit style radio made by Retrosound that has positionable shafts....

I ended up getting a generic blank cover plate from them which I used the original radio bezel plate to copy & make a new one I painted to match the dash face. The worst thing about installing a modern radio is you end up destroying the metal in the dash as well as a perfectly good original dash faceplate & that seems a shame but I certainly understand the desire.

And your radio's probably easier to operate then mine.

and I also tried to use an AM/FM unit out of a 1980 210 that I have but it doesn't fit the 1200 dash - too bad

No tunes, it is only for looks. Turning it on would compete with the A-series music.

I agree the A-series is a hard sound to compete with, but when I'm parked, I have the worlds smallest drive-in cinema! (You can also watch movies on the head unit). Got this one because my dash was already hacked and didn't think all the lights, bells, whistles and dials of modern head units sat well with the minimal features of the 1k dash. Couldn't resist adding the missile "acc" switch tho :).
D, the info in this Pic should also answer your question.
