Andy, the A series they're referring to is what originally came in your ute (A12 L4) and I agree; a hot A series is the best way to go, especially with your limited knowledge. Get your A12 bored/stroked using other A series pistons/conrods/cranks and make it BREATHE with a set of sidedraught Webers and extractors. No engineering needed (the engine stamp is still A12!), reliable as #OOPS# and easy to work on. You have to learn to crawl before you walk.

Oh ok, Well this is what I know about my engine, maybe you guys might be able to give me some pointers of what I should look at doing to it next.
It has a recent topend rebuild,
new head not sure if its just a standard one
new pistons & bearings
mild sports cam
sports exhaust
extractors
A webber carby.
I will be pulling the engine out for a complete respray.

That's a pretty typical rebuild/mod, maybe now it has 75hp instead of 69hp.

For $5000 you can build an A12 to 120 HP, or buy the previously mentioned 170kw A12 for $1800.

Ok are these A12 engines fairly easy to find, or are they as rare as rocking horse #OOPS#?
And where would the best place to start looking be?
Thanks heaps for all your help :)

Not rare -- they came in every 1200 and 120Y ever made.

Just keep an eye out on the forums for a worked A14 or A15, ones bored out to 1600cc with twin Webers all the good bits professionally built generally sell for $3k to 3.5K second hand.

Ok so im just trying to get my head around these engines so in one of your previous posts you wrote you can build an A12 to 120 HP, or buy the previously mentioned 170kw A12 for $1800.
Being as my ute is later than 1974 this means that means it has the same engine in it as the 120Y and that is the engine that you mentioned could buy for $1800 at 170kw.
So basically I have the good A12 in my ute already.
If that all makes sense.
Thanks
