Does anyone know where I can get a chrome diff cover for my 73 coupe? I really appreciate any info...

That will be tough since the third member comes out of the axle like a Ford 9" and is not part of the housing like a GM rear end. What I mean is, there is no diff cover on Datsun rear ends. Sorry. I suppose you could get the whole axle chromed. Not to my taste, but it takes all kinds to make a world.

A trick the rodders use when wanting to get the quick change look is to weld a flat ring onto the back of the diff that is tapped to suit a cast alloy dummy cover that bolts onto the plate. There is a guy here in NZ that casts a couple of different styles for different size diffs. Though I know this doesn't help Roughneck ID his diff...

Some of the little dattos were fitted with Borg Warner diffs from the factory, which have a diff cover plate at the rear.. They dont have pull out centres ( from the front) rather the gears are assembled from the back via the cover plate.

The B210 (120Y) and I think late model 1200s came with a different kind of diff.

It had a removable rear plate (Like the Borg Warner Diffs). They looked 'ugly' and 'wimpy' so I thought, and I haven't seen one in over 10 years.

Like you say dimlight, the most common diff had the removable assembly from the front.

His 1200 might have a 120Y diff in it. This is what I suspect.

Mines a '74 sedan, it certainly looks like it has a removable cover. I haven't seen any other ones to compare it with though.

Well, I have been wrong before and apparently I am this time too. I was not aware of any Datsun axles that had diff covers. I stand corrected. Well, I guess since I'm sitting down, I sit corrected.
As for where to find a chrome cover, I'd say having yours chromed would be the easiest. Of course you would be on foot while it was off the car. But hey, that's the price one has to pay to be stylin' sometimes!
I like the faux quick change idea. Tensandtwenties will talk me out of it though.

thanks for all the input guys. This freakin' electric choke is giving me problems again so I guess I'll have to do that first. I'll let you know what happens with the diff though, thanx.
