Hi guys,
I have a 1968 model Datsun ute which I have scored off my old man. From what I can see it has minimal rust - tail gate, inside the bonnet next to the strut tower.. It also has some bog on the outside of tailgate which would require some looking into... Other than that it's pretty straight and in good condition.

Basically what I am looking for is some recommendations for painters/restorers who you could recommend for me to have a chat with either on the gold coast or in Sydney that would do a thorough job.. I am in the process of stripping the whole car down myself and would be taking in the panels and shell only. I'm not asking for a quote as I understand this is difficult without seeing the car, but someone who is far and specialises in these types of restorations.

Look forward to hearing from you guys

Cheers

Be prepared to spend quite a bit if you want it done properly, plenty of places in Sydney that could do it, but be ready for 5 figure quotes.

$10000 would be considered cheap these days for a thorough job.

My advice would be to go to a car show or even a drag event and have a look round and see what has been sprayed by who.

MotorEx is coming up if you want to check out the best of the best.

Have a look at hot rod and street machine forums to see what places people are using as those guys are more into the restoration side of it all rather than just rubbing back an existing paint job, putting it in hi-fill and spraying it again.

One Joint that come to mind in Sydney is Sefton Smash Repairs. The bloke there did some very nice custom work on my mates Crappadoor Trayback ute. So much so that he was invited to a ute show in Melbourne to display it.

You are really chasing a workshop that doesnt deal soley in insurance work, they are only interested in high turnover quick work. You are after a workshop that prides itself on rebuilding/customising your pride and joy. Google a few joints and make some phone calls, a quick chat to each joint will soon tell you if you want to hand over coin to them.

Just a quick google of "custom panel and paint" showed up
GOLD COAST
http://www.icandycustomresprays.com.au/#!contact
and
http://custom-auto-spray-paint-car-panel-repairs.com/

SYDNEY
http://www.still-one.com.au/main.htm

or take a look at this link from HOK paint and call a few of these guys.
http://www.houseofkolor.com.au/automotivepainters.php

You might find it hard to get much feed back as allot of members do the work them selves to save their coin, me included... :)

10k for a spray? Just a spray? Even after you do all of the prep?

F me!

Things have changed in the last 5 years since i did my last car.

if you do the entire prep then it's usually cheaper but then the painter takes no responsibility that you did a good job underneath
