I felt bad about posting this in the main section under the "supercharge an A-15" thread so I decided to do it here.
If you recall, there was quite a bit of discussion about the Toyota 4AG supercharger on that thread. Well, I have a naturally aspirated (I think) 4AG in my storage room. I was wondering what the internal differences are between the N/A and S/C versions of that engine.
I'm thinking about that powerplant for my car, the Louisiana Purchase. I know, I know, I'm being a hypocrite. I can hear you now, "he rags on people for using Mazda Rotaries, but he's willing to use a Toyota?" So I'll burn in hell for all eternity. I had a good time here.

If you put in th 4AGE, please document the steps for the club! Pictures would be nice.

I agree that a worn out A15 smokes, and if it has a bad muffler it will sound like a truck. Of course if it's in good shape it will sound just like an A12. I've had both in my 1200.

The 4AGE would have to be my favourite non-nissan engine, it even give a aboring old corolla a bit of life. The supercharged 4AGE is known as the 4AGZE, it's available in the GTZ Toyota Levin and it is a favourite upgrade for 'rolla FX GT owners, it doesn't only add a supercharger but also a stronger bottom end supposedly.
In NZ The GTZ Toyota Levins and the NA 20 valve model cost about the same because the 'boyracers' can't get insurance on 'forced induction' cars.
see next thread for more!

the main difference between a 4age & a 4agze is the crank & the rods,bottom-end wise.the 4age has a semi-counterweighted crank(4 counterweights),while the 4agze has a (wait for it) fully counterweighted crank,& is a better grade of steel as well.the rods are also a little bit more tonka.however, with enough boost & nitro-methane,they'll still blow the arse out of the bottom end.the block is also supposed to be stiffer.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

http://www.club4ag.com

Click on "Enter"
Click on "Reference"
Click on Section 2 "4A-GE/GZE Specification and Data"
Then all you have to do is listen to annoying music....

Just about everything you have ever wanted to know about any of the versions of these engines.

What did people do before the internet to find out about various engines?

Ah, this made me smile. Previously, we knew less! However, it wasn't any less accurate ... what we knew was from actual experience, from friends and from magazines and books. Now we can find much more information - as before, some accurate and some not!
