I read in the tech section that you can use a Datto 720 pickup front axle on the back of a 1200 without shortening.

First of all, which 720's came with a live axle on the front? Did they all come with LSD?

Does anyone have the dimensions for this axle?

Thanks!

I didn't think young fellas like you were into drugs...

Of course it's a 4x4. A quick search on google "720 datsun diff" would have told you this.

Interesting swap that's for sure. I wonder if the axles fit both the sedan and Ute diffs ?

Chris.

ok wonder how mad it would be to put all the running gear from the 720 in a 1200 but keep the 5 speed if u have it and the A-15 that would be good then a 6 inch lift kit would go nice that is my dream

I don't know where you got your info, but it's wrong.
the front end of a 720 is an independent, torsion bar spring setup. this applies to both 2wd and 4wd models. the track of a 720 is about 5 to 6 inches (25 to 30 cm) wider than a 1200 and therefore wouldn't fit without major mods.
it may be that where ever you read what you read delt only with the differentual of a 720 4wd. as it is the R180 diff, this is very close in size to the same R160 that was used in the PL510 (bluebird) sedans as they had independant rear suspension.
putting independent rear suspension into a 1200 would require a great deal of work not only to the car, but also to the IRS setup used.

An old post said:

The easy LSD upgrade for a 1200 is a 720 front diff. But that still leaves U with bodgy drumo's ... The 720 front diff will drop straight in ...

But as rgrinder points out, the 720 features an independent front suspension.

I reckon the original quote must of had a typo in it.

as this diff is an easy upgrade for 1600's

Cheers
