http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Other-2-2-/172242093293

starting bid $800

Quote:
This sale is for a 1982 Lectra car 2+2 with only 2200 original miles.. This sale is for the BODY/CHASSIS ONLY and DOES NOT include the original electric motor, drive, or batteries. The body is in moderate condition for its age. Although the car had little actual wear with only 2200 miles on it, the interior has heavy sun damage to the seats. Also since it was little used there is no rust to the floor panels but some rusting has started under the bumpers and a couple of other places as shown in the pictures.

This Lectra 2+2 was sold to an executive/engineer for testing and spent its life sitting in the Arizona sun accounting for the low low miles put on the car. The electric motor was eventually removed to other purposes since the car delivered a range of only 45 miles between charges.

The Lectra Car Company production was located in Las Vegas, Nevada and operated for about 2 years. Their operation converted various models of new Datsun cars into electric vehicles. The total number of Lectra cars produced was less than 1000 before the company became defunct. Some of the Lectra car history may be found on the internet. In particular see youtube videos 'A New Era: Al Sawyer and Lectra Motors' and other titles mentioning 'Al Sawyer' or 'Lectra Motors.'

Probably very few Lectra cars exist today which is why you have never heard of them before. This 2+2 would be an excellent candidate for the installation of a newer and more efficient aftermarket electric motor with high capacity battery package as are currently available. The result should be a very rare electric car with modern range and performance.

Local pickup only. Paypal or cash payment required within 7 days of sale closing. Please ebay message with any questions.

Dave,
I'll be driving through Kansas and Texas next month but I don't need any projects.

wow lectra didnt know that! any more history on this ahead of their time and Elon Musk company?

What people forget about fuel vs powerlines (even with reduced efficiency over long distances) is transportation costs and fuel processing vs battery production etc

Gasoline doesn't magically appear at a gas station there is massive carbon produced to get it to the pump, transport the oil via trucks or boats, refining oil to gasoline, and the transportation (using a truck) of gasoline to a station?
For transportation electricity flows over existing electrical infrastructure or a wire which produces little to no carbon by now in established networks.
Also not forgetting the oversized truck drivers wages and their health needs from spending so many hours sitting down, sleep deprived, eating junk food, the production of trucks to haul the subsidized fuel, their maintenance, the space they take up on the roads and the victims of tired, careless, stressed drivers in accidents.

Pity Lectra is not competing today as it could have stored batteries in those pesky blocky bumpers :)

Before the engine silencer (muffler) was invented, electric cars outsold gasoline cars. New York even had quick-change battery shops!

In the 1970s there were many electric car companies. None of the very large or very succesful. For example there's one guy (in Minnesota iirc) that is still driving today on his orignal 1970s batteries ... they were lead acid like your batteries but are rebuildable instead the usual sealed plastic case

The worlds most successful electric car is the Nissan Leaf with 10 years of service and over 380,000+ units shipped. Soon to be eclipsed by the Model 3? which has over 450,000 reservations

The 2nd-gen Leaf is a good looking car with Japanese DNA -- unlike the original with its tadpole styling
