Here is the scoop; for the class I'm currently running I'm allowed up to 2.0 liters. The only hitch is the motor had to be legal in a sanctioned series pre 2000.

So I can show L series having been run in Japan.

Improved Production allows A12 turbo (That's what Simon runs correct?)

Here in the USA SCCA allowed A15, which is what I run.

This all stems from my wife's. "Can't you just put a bigger motor in it" comment. I do love the A-series motor and a L-series is a pretty easy swap but I'd like to see if there are other options.

The guys over here use CA18 and SR20 motors in our upto 2000cc improved production class. Most fit into 1200s quite easily or the silvia which cams has ok'd to run in the class

Lampy in wa Oz runs an L series with Ka head making 286hp ate
in a heavy 510 so that could also be your last option if nothing
else is allowed by Peter on your side of the pond has a ga16
ready for what I thought was up to 1.6class but if its 2L then
better go for the full cubes! sr20ve is hard to ignore if allowed.

For 2.0 litre limit and no turbo, SR will beat CA

SR20DE (2000-2002 Infiniti G20) 145hp roller rocker motor
CA18DE (1988-1989 Nissan Sentra) 125hp
SR20VE import engine (FWD) 190-205hp

Of course both engines can be built with aftermarket parts to make more HP, these are the factory output

Dave the motor has to be 1999 or older.

D. I'm aware of KA head on L block but that is not a cheap do it in your garage thing.

Vixen are those two motors listed in CAMS / IPRA rule book and can it be accessed online? The key is you have to prove that it was raced in a recognized series.

Here is where I'm at; I'm building up an A15 right now to replace the blown up one, I've sent the cam out to have it ground. The new motor will be slightly higher compression with a slightly more aggressive cam. My thought is it will be pumping out 105-110 at the wheels which is 150% of the original motor stock. As everyone knows I run these things for several and getting more than that means going through the motors annually, which I don't want to do.

My thought is a more modern engine will be much easier to get to the 130-150whp range, I'm the only car in my class at most events but my goal is to get high overall finishes. In the small bore group I run around 5th out of 25th overall and in the B-sedan group I run 9th-10th overall. The B-sedan group is full of 510s and BMW 2002s belting out 175-200whp. If my car were putting out 160-175whp I could probably make the top 3 overall in the B-sedan group.

sr20ve is the roller rocker motor DD
buy a worn sr20de for the number to restamp an sr20ve
if you had to use sr20de block it needs oil injectors
and oil feed for VE head.

Ka24de head is not difficult at all, theres a write up
Ozdat in detail many as you know have dont it and Lampy
had head flowed to result is best flowing 2lt and under
head vs srve etc.

SR is hard to beat weight wise just over 90kg quoted
with carbs or itbs, box is another 15-20kg heavier than t50
Even 8 valve L series can be very powerful and you can
use L28 Turbo zx T5 bellhousing for t5 worldclass box
which is much ligther than 71 series nissan and closer ratios

Theres prob 30kg above an A series for the Sr and you already
have a great differential to suit its torque and BTCC SR engines
all run knife edged crankshafts. I picked 2 sr20de blocks and
could carry one on each arm easily vs one A15 block.
Theres like 15kg difference right there but sr20de head is a
heavy beast so give or take a race A15 is no lighter than race SR

The 97-98 Toyota beams engine 3S-GE produces 196 bhp and comes with a 6 sp. The Turbo version is 256 bhp . You can pick these up for around $2500 with box and computer. Earlier ones produced more HP.

My brother runs one in his Galant and I must say , very impressive

Tom
Both motors are approved by CAMS to be used in IPRA racing. Some guys put webbers on them to save using expensive computers. And are old school guys like me. Most motors come in silia coupes or 180sx Nissans and there gearboxes are farely strong...Greg.

SR20DE came out 1990 with 140hp. The roller rocker version came out in 2000 (145hp)

SR20VE came out 1997

Toyo 3S-GE is an awesome Yamaha engine -- except the US version was only 135hp
