Current revision
Datsun 1200 uses a 38 or 40 liter petrol (gasoline) tank.
Contents |
Capacity
- #Sedan Tank: (40 liter, 10.5 US gal)
- #Coupe Tank: (38 liter, 10 US gal)
- Wagon Tank: (38 liter, 10 US gal)
- #Truck Tank ??
Mounting
Sedan tank is inside boot, just behind rear seat:
Coupe tank is underneath the car, under the boot area:
Gas Cap
Fuel Sender
The fuel gauge level 'sender' is the sensor in the tank.
Return Line
Starting in 1975, North American B210s were fitted with a fuel return line. Here's what the Nissan publication "Introduction of Datsun B210 (1975 model)" says:
Fuel return systemFor preventing abnormal fuel temperature rise, the fuel return system has been installed. In this system, fuel from the fuel tank is delivered to both the carburetor and fuel tank.
The fuel return line services to return a part of the fuel to the fuel tank to suit different engine operating requirements, preventing the possibility of fuel heated flowing through the fuel line inside the engine compartment, and elminating "percolation" inside the carburetor.
Thus the return line prevents vapor lockᵂ (engine stalling and engine hot-starting issues).
Venting
Datsun 1200 in most parts of the world vents the fuel tank to the atmosphere. A simple hose loop goes from the filler tube up above the tank and back down towards the ground. The loop is to prevent a siphoning effect.
EVAPO
In Australia after 1978, and Japan after 1974, and all years in North America 1200s used the Evaporative emissions control system.
With EVAPO, the tank is not vented directly to the air. Instead, fumes are captured by the Evaporate Emission control (EVAPO) system. For details, see Fume Control.
Filler Hose
Coupe
Sedan
Note that the USA B110 sedan tank uses a 2-piece filler hose (there's a small hose inside the bigger one). This is for the EVAPO (emissions market) vehicles:
Two-piece curved filler hose for EVAPO system
This hose is NLA (No Longer Available) in US, Canada or Japan. However, the regular single hose can be fitted as follows:
Straight one-piece filler hose for non-EVAPO system
The hose looks like this:

- NOTE: Nissan USA is out of stock forever of the Sedan hose. But perhaps they can get the Coupe hose.
